Rude waiter?! That's part of the charm. It is old San Francisco. The freshest seafood. The best bread. Old waiters in tuxes. Hard wooden chairs. Stingy drinks. 90 year old patrons who can tell you stories of Sam's in the 1930s. The best, most simple, fresh, delicious food in the city. Nothing fancy. No chic. Just come to eat and learn how superb restaurants used to be..

Okay food, low value and very rude employees. Will not go back..
Good crab cakes - rude server. We came here for dinner and had a meal inside a booth with a curtain. Our server was an elderly man and we had to speak very loudly for him to understand us. We had the crab cakes, which were delicious but not necessarily worth the $20 price tag. I had the linguine pasta special with shrimp. The shrimp were extremely fresh and tasty, but the pasta itself was bland and there was nothing special about it. When we paid our bill was $56 - we paid $63, tipping $7 (12%). Our elderly server counted the money in front of us and said "there should be a little more, but that's okay." Then my girlfriend went to the washroom, and he passed by and I could tell he wanted to clean off the table. He saw I was still there and looked very unhappy. The entire experience left a sour taste in my mouth. Suffice to say, we will not be returning..
Not bad but not great and with so many other options spend your time elsewhere.
We had a great meal and service. Decor is a through back in time and is quaint. The price is in the norm for a good meal in SF or any major city. Ave with drink, desert, and tip $50 - $60 I would return and recommend it.
I was hankering for a bowl of that delicious clam chowder that Frisco is known for, so I headed to Sam's. To sum it up, it was under-whelming. Not bad, not great....sort of a cross between New England and Manhattan. I was the youngest patron by several decades (and I am 43), so perhaps I was just not in their target market for taste...or style..
Very tasty! A bit expensive but well worth it if you want fresh seafood. Very sweet servers..
Good, but not great. If you're prepared to lay out $120 for two, it's worth a visit. I would go back for a third time...unless I find a better place beforehand..
