Was looking forward to tasting the beautiful treats of my childhood today… not sure what you are doing but the sausage rolls and party pies were so peppery…. TASTE your mixture! The pastry was divine. Filling thumbs down.
Having grown up in the Tamar Valley, I was keen to travel back to what was an iconic business in the sleepy hamlet of Exeter. Perhaps memories always are stronger than the present but I was a little disappointed with my meal. A pastie, bland and peppery, and a sickly sweet caramel slice that lacked the consistency and smoothness of a correctly tempered caramel layer. The staff were keen to serve and did their best but the coffee was not barista quality and was bitter and left a nasty aftertaste. Overall a let down on Memories of what was an institution for fine pastries and cakes in the 70’s and 80’s. Maybe it was a bad day – I hope so.
