I know I shouldn’t expect cafe-quality coffee from a bakery and I didn’t, so I wasn’t bothered about the taste. But I totally forgot the golden rule of drinking coffee from a new and unfamiliar shop, which is too never drink it right away and instead sip slowly to test the temperature or run the risk of scalding your tongue. Guess what happened? Tongue feeling a bit raw aside, the cold apple slice was a welcome addition into my mouth. The pastry was a bit hard, resembling more of a shortbread than the more common puff pastry. A different take I supposed. The chocolate sponge cake was light and soft, with just the right amount of dollop of cream. Lots of locals coming in and leaving with loaves of breads and the meat pies. Wishing we had a black hole for a stomach so we can try everything else on offer.
