What a friendly homely little cafe this is. They went out of the way to guide us on our way & make the best burgers ever. The coffee was also not bad for such an out of the way place-next stop Antarctica!! You also have the benefit of that great puffer train right on the doorstep, unfortunately we were not able to do the trip as it was a Wednesday (they only do certain days off season) Thanks Meg you are a gem
We went there after traveling as far south as the road can take you. Had burgers, one with the lot & one with our the salad. They were very tasty. The patty has the lovely home made taste to it. It’s a small joint & there isn’t much traffic. But if your there support the locals & get a good feed whilst your at it.
Quite possibly the BEST greasy spoon style burger I have ever had. …it was over 6 months ago and I still remember the taste of this piece of majestic heaven. Quite simple fare, really, done by a country family in a back-of-the-house kitchen, and my goodness if that wasn’t the BEST burger – it’s definitively and unapologetically greasy spoon kind of food, the cheese was slathered on in lashings, the salad was fresh and overflowing, the burger itself dripped on my plate, the bun was soft and tasty, it was seriously fantastic. It’s far, FAR out of the way, and basically appears to be a snack shop attached to a tourist attraction (the Ida Bay Railway station), but for a place to boast Australia’s most Southern Coffee, and to have THAT burger again, it is a trip well worth taking. Well done, Meg and family. 🙂
