Worth going here for the interior design alone. Breakfast is very good though I wouldn’t say it’s amazing – serving sizes slightly on the skinny side. That said, it’s all delicious and coffee is pretty great also. Kinda wish I’d had the bloody Mary another table got, it looked terrific.
Beards, Tofu and dour waitstaff, why bother. Nothing particularly exciting. The rocket on my breakfast was wilted and yellow. Far better options in Hobart and surrounds.
Smolt Kitchen is a cool little place with a relaxed vibe. The staff were excellent. I had the Portuguese chicken salad which was absolutely sensational. Would definitely recommend it for any meal of the day.
We enjoyed both our dishes – the pork salad was delicious and a generous lunch serve and the tart was tasty (a tad oily and while light on for Gorgonzola I enjoyed the roasted onion flavour) Not an option for the super hungry though. Loved the watermelon and apple juice but a bit pricey at $6.50 for a small glass. Nice setting in gorgeous west Hobart and friendly service.
The decor is beautiful, spacious and I could hang out there all day. They had a high chair for our little one and crayons, pens etc for our toddler. We had the hot cakes with lemon curd, crumpets with yoghurt & strawberries and a ham & cheese croissant. All of which had beautiful flavours and textures. I considered the meals to be great value. They were also accomodating by serving us a half serve of crumpets for one of our children. We also had takeaway coffee and chai lattes which were great.
Why did we only discover this place on our last morning in Hobart!?Gorgeous decor, gorgeous food and uh-hem, the staff are pretty easy on the eyes also. Good music, great coffee. Great experience.
We’re huge fans of Smolt Salamanca so were excited to see a new one in West Hobart. The dining area is bright unpretentious and welcoming. We missed brekkie but they were happy to whip up back and eggs for our little one to keep him happy. I had soup of the day which at $14.90 a bowl I expected a large flavoursome bowl of soup but instead igot the little savoury dish pictured. It was more of a veggie dish and no soup stock to see. Fussy mini person ordered bacon and eggs which they did up for him and I should’ve had that too. I’m assuming it was a boutique bacon and not the cheap cuts mini is used to. The dish itself was lovely. Hubby had the ragout which looked lovely but he complained of it being too watery. This is from someone who is nicknamed Veolia by the family for his ability to eat anything without issue. Anything. We loved Smolt at Salamanca so we’re guessing and praying that this was just a bad chef day. Judging by the decor and money they’ve invested into this place they would’ve hired a chef and not a ‘frozen to fryer’ cook. Looks lovely, fresh and clean. We may try it again during summer when the menus are freshened up again.
