Il Gambero is the place we frequent with family and relatives. Its a homey restaurant thats great for large groups. The pasta and pizza offerings are good, so is the wine list. Prices are also affordable and one of the great value places along Lygon Street.
Our favourites are the fettuccine dimattina (chicken & avocado with creamy Napoli sauce) and Marks special pizza (garlic & herb thin crust, salami, bacon and prawns with caramelised onions).
Unfortunately their service is generally a hit and miss for us – either really good (when theyre busy like Friday nights) or really poor (weeknights).
Have eaten here quite a few times now. I think it is the best value pasta on Lygon street. It is delicious- perfectly aldente, full of flavour and the entree size is just right for lunch. The eggplant pasta is my fave. Service can be a bit off- depending on who you get, but the food is so yummy that I dont mind.
I have also tried nonnas meatballs – which is lovely rich tomato sauced meatballs with crunchy bread and a little salad – really yum.
Recommended for well priced tasty pasta in a nice environment.
