I had such high hopes. Weve had eaten at Carino while it was in bridgeland and it was amazing. Tonights results …. sad! We made a reservation knowing Friday would be busy. We arrived at 6:59 for our 7:00pm res. While the server was already calling us ? … I made a joke saying you all run a tight ship…… not so much. First we were given the lunch menus… 10 minutes later we were offered water and told about the specials. The Server (and I capitalize on the fact there there was only One Server)Took another 15 min to come back to take an order .. the gals ordered wine which came 10 minutes later and the guys a beer each… 50 minutes after being seating the boys got their beers. 🙁 A couple was abruptly asked to move to another seat in order to accommodate a larger group :/ .(we just witnessed it and thought it was rude) Appetizers were actually really good. Three different fish tacos in seaweed . Yum ! Then dinner came. Duck duck… way undercooked Spicy duck soup … really really salty Spicy seafood linguini …. flavourless and sad Pork carbonara … the best dish at the table ..: nothing to write home about. So sad considering the amazing memories from the bridgeland days. 28 guests ….. ONE SERVER .:: (she was lovely ) But come on. Pay 200$ to pour my own wine and not be asked once how my food is never again.
Delicious food!!!! Probably my favourite pasta place in Calgary right now. Service was excellent even though they only had one server (who also had to cook) working that night.
Ordered the tasting menu (see attached) and the tonkatsu carbonara. The brie was good. The pasta was my favourite dish. It had nice flavours. The risotto was way too creamy in my opinion… it kind of tasted like risotto with cream of mushrooms. The chocolate roll was nicely presented, but taste wise was just ok. The pork in the tonkatsu was a bit dry. However, the sauce and eggs were good. The server was very nice and friendly. One of the chefs also followed us out to say thank you when we left.
I’ve been many times and while I sometimes miss the Carino in Bridgeland I find the location in Mission better then the original. The fries are awesome, the lamb dish and the duck dishes are my favourite dishes. Good pastas, friendly welcoming staff, excellent deserts, you can add seared foie gras to any dish. They have good sake and had a no corkage wine fee night last time I was there A+
The word is definitely getting out on how good this little restaurant is. Very friendly, good service and the food is really nice and creative.
This place looks like a little hole in the wall, but don’t let that fool you. It’s a Japanese Italian fusion restaurant, which sounds odd, but they make it work so well!! We got the chefs menu, which was two starters and a main, followed by dessert. The wagyu beef sauce pasta is a must!!!! It was ridiculously good. The tables are a little close together, so you don’t have a ton of privacy, but sometimes that’s nice too. Would definitely go back again. We got a ton of food and a bottle of wine and it was relatively cheap. The service was great too.
Food here was amazing, I can’t remember the last time I liked everything on my dish (as well as my girlfriend’s dish). The restaurant itself is pretty small so we were a bit squished. We had the Tenderloin and Duck Breast. The mushroom risotto that came with the tenderloin was insane, probably the best that I’ve ever had. The Duck meat was also really really good.Waitress accidentally added a dessert we didn’t have to our bill when it came time to pay. We brought it to her attention and she took it off right away. We also have a severe nut allergy which we mentioned to the waitress but she forgot at the end of our meal and gave us biscuit treats that had nuts in them. Not too big of a deal since we are in a perpetual habit of asking if things have nuts in them, but a slight miss on her part after a really good meal.I guess it’s customary in this restaurant for someone to open the door for you when you leave and one of the Japanese chef’s (not sure if owner) will thank you very kindly for dining there. Will definitely be back!
