This place is an awesome gem in downtown New West (and up a steep road)! It’s worth the climb. The cozy establishment seems to be a popular takeout place. We were the only ones dining in. Sushi is made to order and came within reasonable time. I was amazed by the amount or sushi in one order. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to finish but I surprised myself because they don’t make their rolls huge by adding a thick layer of rice like many other sushi places. Their green tea was legit and their sashimi was fresh. Really nice staff too.

Still excellent!. First time I tried this place was in the summer and I frequent the place, if I want something healthy and light. Tonight I want some sushi, so I got salmon and tuna nigiri and their spicy salmon roll. It was delicious, especially the nigiri…fresh and clean tasting. My only regret is that I only got 2 piece of each instead of 6 pieces of each. I could have ate them all!! The chef/ owner is very friendly. It’s a great local sushi place with a simple menu of pure quality in their fish.10 Aug, 2014Excellent sushi!. We live around the corner and decided to give this place a try for dinner. We tried the Rainbow special roll and the salmon, tuna and Inari nigiri sushi. It was absolutely delicious. The salmon and tuna melted in our mouth and we couldn’t resist and ordered more. The owner is the sushi chef and he’s takes pride in his presentation and quality of the ingredients. It is a great quaint and low key sushi restaurant. We will definitely will be regulars and I hope they will build a good regular clientele base, so they can be there for many years to come. The best part for us…no driving, just walk around the corner. Support your local New Westminster independent restaurants!

I live quite close to this little sushi joint. Although my visits to this restaurant is due to proximity, I truly feel they serve great food. Fish here is always fresh and flavours for all the rolls are on point. Instead of spreading themselves thin and suffering in food quality, they have kept their menu small and focused on freshness and quality of food. I’ve been here at least 10 times and have never been disappointed in food freshness and quality. Pricing is good for the quality of product you get. Don’t expect AYCE / sushi garden / sushi and roll’s cheap sushi prices; I would say it is a couple dollars more than those places, but the gain in quality is quite worth it IMO.I regularly visit places like Guu, hapa, octopus garden, miku. Although menu items are not as eclectic or diverse as these places, the freshness and quality of raw ingredients is on par with them. Go try it!

Pretty Good. We were in New Westminster Aug. 21-23 and had a craving for sushi. I’ve eaten Sushi all over the world (trust me) and I am extremely picky about it.We didn’t want to drive anywhere, merely walk from our hotel (Inn at the Quay). After reading all the reviews about the other sushi restaurants within walking distance (they weren’t good reviews), we finally took a chance on Sushi Yen. Well worth the extra 2 block walk. The food was good. No reservations about going back in the future. Try their house salad, the dressing is awesome, and the salad was all very fresh and crispy. Tuna Tataki was perfect. If I had any complaints…. the Nigiri I ordered had too much rice underneath it. I like to be able to eat Nigiri in one bite, not forced to break it up in to smaller portions. The restaurant is clean and the service was terrific! Well done for a new (3 months in business) restaurant.Enjoy.

A mom and pop sushi joint with tons of class. This new little joint is my new favourite sushi joint in the city. What shocked me the most was that they use the freshest fish and ingredients I’ve seen, probably on par with the more well known and quality sushi joints in downtown Vancouver which is a lot to say considering we have only several sushi joints in town. They offer free miso soup with your order and their Itamae (sushi chef) always seems so pleasant working there. He even cuts the sushi cleanly with the grain without any stray strands of fish meat going to and fro, a mark of a good sushi chef; unlike some joints around the block ruining the taste even more.Don’t even pass up on the Japanese beer they serve there, which isn’t even served in the several rubbish sushi joints around town. Grab a bite to eat when you have time after work, school, etc. always a pleasant experience.
