Ok first off, I wanna say that the service is exceptional. Even though there’s a English barrier, they weren’t rude. I think they just didn’t know how to say stuff in English.Decor and ambiance is nice, free wifi, decent prices.I ordered the beef noodle soup, it’s good but nothing wow which is alright. But when my girlfriends dish came, C19, the tangy and hot noodle with pork, veggies, and sauce, it wasn’t what the menu described.C19 was missing the protein and veg. We waved the waitress down to mention this and she said that’s the right one we ordered. But there’s no veg and pork?Anyhow she seemed very timid and we didn’t want to upset her, she looked like she was going to cry. Don’t get me wrong the dish is good, nothing wrong with it except that it was heavy in OIL…I may give this place another chance. My friends had told me their known more for their side dishes with rice or their soups. If anyone is going to order C19, it’s just noodle, sauce, and two pieces of bok choy. So heads up!
The first timer I came to this new Chinese restaurant it was pretty mediocre but I wanted to come back to explore their menu. This time I ordered the wontons in chili sauce and their noodles with pork sauce. The whole meal seemed to be cooked by an amateur chef. First of all there were two large tables which seemed to be friends of the owners. Of course thier food was given priority and my food took awhile to come. Also the timing of the components cooked for the dishes was off. It seemed like they cooked the noodles much too early so that by the time I got my order, the noodles were already clumped up and lukewarm. The wontons were much overcooked and took so long to come that I had already finished my noodle dish. Lastly, and what really gave me an indication that the chef was inexperienced, was that there was a vegetable label still attached to the chopped cucumbers. Overall, the service and ambiance was decent, but the kitchen work needs improvement. I may visit this place again if they improve greatly but I doubt am improvement will happen.
I’ve been to this restaurant 3 times this week alone. Needless to say, I had good experience but my last visit was totally disappointing. In my first 2 visits, I ordered mainly dim sum and noodle soup. My 3rd time I decided to order one of the the main course item Chive Chicken Leg. The menu did not say it was extremely spicy. Well, I could hardly take a third bite. Also, it was not chicken leg but chicken back with not much meat. I complained to the waitress why the dish does not match the menu. She apologized and gave me a 10% discount when the bill came. That did not make me feel better because I felt being cheated. They should have given me a full refund on that dish, or take the chicken back to the kitchen. Throughout the meal, I complained 3 times but she said that there might be translation error on the menu. The item does not have a hot chilly symbol beside it. Is that a translation error??? The English stated clearly that it should be a chicken leg. But there is no thigh or drumstick.
My partner and I tried this new restaurant on Cambie with high hopes, and it did not disappoint. Overall I would say it is comparable to Peaceful (which has better noodles but less quality ingredients) but not as good as Sunny Spot. We ordered pork dumplings, mushu fried noodles, and lamb noodles in light broth. The lamb noodle came in a light but very satisfying broth, akin to the ox tail soup from Korean restaurants. However, the lamb was thin and dry, sukiyaki style, and the noodle itself was a bit disappointing. The mushu fried noodles was very good, on the other hand, and came with a rich amount of ingredients, including pork, cabbage, eggs, wood ears, and others. The only downside was unfortunately, again, the noodles. There was something not very satisfying about their noodles. While different, both dishes came with noodles that weren’t nuanced or textured, a bit homogenous in their taste, as if the dough was not wrought enough. The dumplings, which came with chives, were satisfying to me, but not as enjoyed by my partner. We’d be interested in trying more in the future. Bonus points for very friendly waitresses.
Authentic, fresh, homestyle cooking with quality ingredients. It was our first time here and we will be back. We ordered the moo shu noodles, Szechuan string beans, pan fried dumplings, and xiao long bao. Everything was fantastic. Our only complaint was the XLB was cooked a bit too long that the skin broke easily, but the taste was top notch! Definitely a must try!
Delicious handmade noodles in seasoning that is delightfully spiced with all the szechuan ingredients you’d expect. The first two times I went I found my food was on the salty side, but came back as the noodles were so good. Each time I’ve been back it seems the food is less salty, which is good! I haven’t been disappointed yet! Go when it’s less busy, as the last time I went I waited 45 minutes for my food as it was a full house and a pretty small kitchen. Will be back! Awesome price for large dishes of hand made noodles.
