Everything has changed. If you haven’t tried the Shakespeare Arms in a while you might want to go again everything has changed. New owner, new manager, great staff. The food is impressive with an extensive new menu. Everything has been updated its fresh and clean. Yes it can be noisy because its the place people love to gather at the end of the day.Live music Friday and Saturday nights after 10:00 pm.www.shakespearearms.com
Good food but very busy and noisy. Its dark and full of older people who are quite loud. age 65+ who are all yelling at each other. food is good. atmosphere is dark. OK place to go with friends
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Guelph! I’ve tried almost everything on the menu. I would recommend getting there early for dinner though, the place fills up fast. Awesome patio, especially if you’re a smoker. Best pub in Guelph.
Good food. The atmosphere is very pub-like and a little too dark for my liking, personally. It looks a little old, but not necessary good in the Victorian sense they seem to be going for. Food is great though, I had their steak and mushroom pie last time and it was really good. Service is average, not extraordinary but nothing really to complain about. Overall good restaurant.
The food is horrible, but the environment is good. I would go back to drink with friends, but never again to eat. I had the fish n chips. It was horrible!! I got a salad as well and had to pay extra to make it Greek, even though the salad is about 1/2 cup of lettuce. The coleslaw was disgusting as well. My boyfriend had the shepherds pie; he couldn’t even finish it and he loves shepherds pie. Again the atmosphere was great, however.
Good food but hard to get into and a little noisy. I have to say that Shakey’s has one of the best portobello mushroom burgers going. Being vegetarian, sometimes it’s hard to find something good to eat in an pub-style restaurant but Shakey’s burger is amazing. It’s topped with roasted red peppers that are to die for. My only complaint is that it’s very hard to get into on a weekend and it’s very noisy. Don’t go there if you want to have a quiet conversation.
Good food and staff. I am in no way being biased as a former Shakies employee, but I still go there for food on occasion because it’s pretty good stuff. The cost of beer keeps going up though, and that has to be one of my biggest complaints. Meal portions are pretty good for what you pay, their chicken wings are some of the best and biggest in town, the fish and chips is a worthwhile hearty portion for even the hungriest of men (or monsters), and many of the appetizers alone are meal worthy for the average eater. The antijito’s are great, as are the Irish nachos. The menu is fairly robust and they have the traditional English style meals as well as curry and various sandwiches. The Philly Beef sandwich is a great selection by the way.
