FOOD:We had come here on a Saturday afternoon at around 3:15 pm for High Tea ($32 For 2). I had called before coming to make sure that they would serve us as the restaurant closed at 4:00 pm. For my choice of tea, I had settled on Romantic Spirit, with berries, vanilla, and almond; my husband had settled on English Breakfast. The tea itself was very delicious and colourful; the only thing was that we were each given very small pots, which only allowed us to have two small cups each before the water ran out. We had asked for a refill of water afterwards, and were given two pots of hot water without any fresh tea leaves. We were a bit disappointed therefore, we had asked our server if we could have fresh tea leaves so then we could have more tea (luckily, we werent charged for this extra tea pot that we had each asked for).In terms of the food however, the only thing that really surprised and excited us were the Scones. They were absolutely delicious, very moist, with sugar sprinkled on top, and just the right hint of flavour. The Clotted Cream that came with the scones was overflowing in the cup that it came in, which made it difficult to scoop without too much of the cream coming out. The Tea Sandwiches however, were a disappointment. We were served three different kinds; egg salad, cucumber and cream cheese, and tuna. They were all served on stale, brown bread, with the cucumber still having the skin on them. Also, there were no additional flavourings in each of the sandwiches, they tasted as though they came out of the freezer. Also, the cream cheese was only spread over a small part of the middle of the sandwich, not over the entire thing as it should be. We were definitely not impressed with the tea sandwiches. In terms of the desserts, they were okay however, they were much too small, and didnt taste homemade, more like store-bought. There were also fruit pieces beside the desserts but, they were not appetizing. There were banana slices with the skin still on them, and they were turning brown. We were not impressed with the fruit pieces at all. Overall though, for the price that we had paid, it was okay, but definitely not something that I would be willing to have again.ATMOSPHERE:This restaurant was located right beside the water, which was nice to look out at while we were dining. Unfortunately, no matter where we sat, we had a cold draft coming from the two doors that were wide open, which it feel uncomfortable. The restaurant itself does have an old-school feel however, it was very cheaply done, with tablecloths that looked as though they were from my grandmother. The tea cups and saucers as well were very plain, with none that had any intricate designs on them. It definitely was a very simple set-up.SERVICE:When we had come into the restaurant, I had told the server at the front that I had called before coming and they said it was okay that we come at that time (they usually stop serving high tea at 3:00 pm). However, throughout the entire time that we were dining, the servers were not too friendly. It seemed as though whenever we needed something, we would have to go to them, and they were usually not in plain sight. When they did attend to us, they hardly smiled, it seemed as though we were a bother for being there. We definitely didnt feel very welcome.COST:2 Afternoon Teas ($32.00 Total): $36.15 (Taxes Included)WOULD YOU RETURN?For high tea, not at all. Although the price was great, the food, atmosphere, and service were all lacking in many aspects.
I took my girls here for high tea. I have had a lot better. However, it wasn’t bad at all, it is just very low key. Sandwiches are just sandwiches cut- nothing special, scones were good but not great. The desserts were cute and tea was just ok. The price reflected the low key atmosphere so overall we were pleased. This place in the summer rents kayaks along the water this place is beside. It also doubles as an ice cream shop and the eclectic uses of it make it a spot I will want to come with y dining group next summer. Tea is not the only thing they serve so next time I will ry that and finish it off with a cone.
