It’s a set menu for the New Year’s Eve. The price is quite expensive. That’s why people came in, sat down and left. It’s a 3 course game inspired menu. I love game so I have a high expectation. The appetizer, butternut squash and lobster bisque had big chunks of lobster meat. Butternut squash was sweet and that balanced the richness of lobster bisque. Venison tartare was good but if they could have a little bit more honey sauce, that would be great. The texture of the entree, pheasant and wild boar seemed to be a bit of artificial. They’re tender but lack of game’s special flavour. Was the pheasant covered by the smoked flavour? But how about the boar? I liked the side. Purple potatoes gratin and braised onion were good. The dessert was too much. Strawberry Creme brle was tasty with the touch of strawberry sauce. The big round chocolate torte was too heavy. They should have made a smaller portion if it’s done in house. It’s kind of ruin the 3-course Personally I prefer the original a la carte menu. It’s a good try though.
This is our second visit and again we were impressed with the great service and food. Loved the Beef Brisket. Nice seasonal selection on the menu. We will be returning very soon and trying more.

Tucked between a row of emerging Big Eat favourites along Main Street in Stouffville is Smokery Kitchen and Bar an upscale casual dining smokehouse that is bringing to the table refreshing surprises from unique dcor to creative cuisine. We stepped into The Smokery on a chilly afternoon and were greeted instantly by the sweet smelling delights of mouth-watering barbecue and the most beautiful interior that we could have imagined seeing in a smokehouse. We expected to walk into something of the log cabin variety but this sophisticated dining room is well-balanced between rustic and elegant, offering a comfortable space for folks from all walks of life to enjoy. We were lucky to meet with owner and executive chef Chris Waye a man with a passion for creativity, education, and serving honest food to good people. For only having been open for three months, The Smokery Kitchen and Bar has been a huge success and Chris aims to maintain momentum with the introduction of new seasonal menu items every few months. With an impressive 14 years in the industry and a fine dining background, Chris and his team cook creatively and intelligently; crafting a menu that is accessible to everyone. We were eager to dive in the scintillating woodsy smell of authentic barbecue was enough to already make our mouths water. Pacing ourselves, we started off our meal with a simple roasted pear salad. This delicious salad featured smoked Blue Haze cheese from Quebec, roasted Bartlett pear and a lemon and honey vinaigrette. The salad came lightly dressed, giving it a subtle but enjoyable undertone of lemon, and featured many contrasting textures from the silky, smoky cheese to the crisp crunch of the arugula. Staying true to The Smokery standards, you might wonder how a salad could qualify as barbecue but as we said, this kitchen is crafty and clever, not to mention largely talented.Next to arrive was the fresh and colourful smoked salmon plate. Smoked in-house and cut thick, this appetizer is dressed with pickled red onion frise, crispy capers and a touch of lemon lime dill cream. If you love smoked salmon, and we mean really love it, then you cannot continue happily in life until you have treated yourself to this slice of heaven on a plate. The salmon is smoked on cherry wood, versus the common hickory mesquite, giving it a delightful flavour that mixes well with the crunch of the frise and capers. We recommend getting a little bit of everything on your fork for each bite the creamy lemon lime dill does a fantastic job of tying in all the ingredients for mass effect.Next up was the most anticipated (and well worth waiting for!) dish, the barbecue platter. Served on a large plate was a selection of their best: beef and pork ribs, coffee brisket, chorizo sausage, coleslaw, glazed carrots, and house-made bread and butter pickles and grainy mustard. Each meat is individually slow-smoked and its true what they say, great things do take time. From the chorizo sausage that melts in your mouth to the beautifully delicate coffee brisket, we couldnt get enough of this spectacular smorgasbord of meat.We also couldnt help but treat ourselves to the highly recommended hot honey fried chicken; a fantastic spin on a classic favourite that Chris took painstaking measures to make sure he had successfully nailed. With a slice of moist cornbread and more of those crunchy pickles to garnish, this chicken has a great kick that sneaks up on you if you can handle some heat! For those with taste buds that enjoy milder flavours, this honey fried chicken can also be enjoyed without the spicy flavouring, proving yet again that this kitchen aims to please every palette. We would be remiss if we didnt compliment this meal with a captivating pairing of the house-made cocktails. The Canada Goose plays on rye manhattans and is dangerously gratifying. Combining Gray Goose, Lele Blanc, maple syrup and fresh lime juice, this cocktail is so light and sweet that youll forget its an alcoholic beverage. For those who enjoy a more invigorating cocktail, we recommend the Cider 77 a tempting twist on the champagne based French 77, with distinctive citrus flavourings and fresh lemon twist garnishing, this authentic champagne cider is very easy to drink. We love that Chris and his team offer the very best of his kitchen and prepares food and drink suited for everyone. Hes also incredibly humble, and sings the praises of his staff, emphasizing just how instrumental every single person involved is to The Smokerys success. From the local farmers, to his talented cooks and hardworking dishwashers, everyone at The Smokery works together to bring an experience to diners searching for upscale casual dining, down and dirty barbecue and everything in between. thebigeatontario.com
I loved it. The bacon is awesome. Try the Caesar. Great Mac & Cheese, cornbread, & pulled pork. Our grandchildren love it. The adults have the ribs ( beef too).
I love this place! Delicious BBQ with a twist. The best corn bread I’ve ever had and they make everything themselves; right down to the pickles!
This place was recommended by a friend as amazing. Unfortunately we were not so impressed. The chairs were cold metal and uncomfortable. The food was too heavy with sauces and just average taste which did not warrant the $100 cost for two people to eat. The service, food and decor would have to be much better to inspire me to return.
