On a rare spontaneous food trip to Musaffah, meeting a friend for dinner, we wanted something simple as it was already late by our Chinese/American standards (9.30pm) :).So, we drove round a bit and found Wadi Mehran, a Pakistani restaurant. We were told that everyone who worked there was Pakistani, but we got served by the lone Bangladeshi working there, Mr. Rakib, who turned out to speak very good English, and was most pleasant and helpful. As for the food, not being very hungry, we had our Pakistani friend, Mr. Farhad, order just two dishes (he had also already eaten dinner) — he picked the mutton karahi and bhindi fry — which hubby enjoyed, but Mr. Farhad said he has had better, especially his own recipe of bhindi, which he offered to cooke for us this weekend! Offer happily accepted. 🙂 I then asked him what he felt were the two dishes’ shortcomings and he said the bhindi needed to to have onions which were not browned, and the mutton needed more spice. Ha ha! Different scales of spiciness for an American vs. a Pakistani! We had simple roti which hubby enjoyed because it was not oily (I, of course, would have preferred a paratha in all its greasy ghee glory!) As usual, the meal came with complimentary green salads, and all had a 7-Up each. So, while not a place to write home about, it all made for a simple and quite satisfying meal. And we made a new young friend in Mr. Rakib who was happy to have people with whom to speak in English. Oh, and also, the family dining area (I was the lone female for several miles around, it seemed), was clean and neat. However, don’t expect the same cleanliness in the public parking area, which was littered with drink cans and other food packaging. Get past that, and Wadi Mehran is welcomingly clean. Total bill came to just aed28.
