What a find!. Three of us were shopping in the Fashion District and looking for a full-service restaurant. We just didn’t feel like McDonald’s or eating street food while standing or walking. So we asked a vendor, who recommended Picante, and we went for it.Great decision. This place has fresh food, with an emphasis on fish and seafood, although there were beef and chicken dishes on the menu, too. I had the shrimp Picante, which came with about 8 pieces of shrimp, a pile of rice and their special cole slaw (very fresh, not drenched), for about $12. We also ordered a side of home-made tortillas. Instead of tortilla chips and salsa to start, we got a basket of home-made potato chips with some sort of spicy yet tangy sauce drizzled on it — no additional charge. The service was really friendly, and there is a small bar, although it’s a full bar, specializing in Latin American drinks like mojitos, caipirinhas, and of course, margaritas. The restaurant is on the second floor of a building, and we ate inside; but there is patio seating with one side, overlooking Santee Alley. We hear they offer a special on Friday and Saturday nights: bottles of Argentine wine at half price. We’ll be back.
