Gooey Octopus Pancake Balls. A Japanese friend of mine introduced me to the Tanota food truck, because it reminded her of home, or at least Osaka. As somebody who has never been to Japan but can still appreciate comfort food, the takoyaki grows on you really fast. Takoyaki is basically a savory pancake filled with baked octopus that is cooked into a ball. When it’s hot, it’s so gooey that it barely holds itself together, especially when you eat it with chopsticks. When it cools down, it’s a bit more solid. Either way, the balls are inexplicably addictive. Takoyaki Tanota is a food truck, so you have to read their Twitter stream to find them. If you happen to be in Little Osaka (Sawtelle near Olympic), Torrance, Little Tokyo or Koreatown when the truck is operating, I highly recommend stopping and loading up.
