Santa Cruz’ Hidden Gem. Having just moved to Live Oak, I’m on the hunt for good restaurants. In my 16 months in Santa Cruz bbq has meant Aptos bbq or Mission bbq. No longer is that true! Coles BBQ serves great bbq. And unlike Mission and Aptos the sides are reasonable. I actually left ribs on the table from their large pork ribs platter!I’ll be back again soon.

Microwaved BBQ is Awful. Had dinner on a Saturday evening around 6pm. The BBQ Tri-tip, pork loin and ribs came drowning in BBQ sauce. The meat was very, very tough….tri-tip, ribs, and pork all were terrible. I suspect they smoke the meat in the morning and then slice the meat and heat it up in the microwave for each order. How else could BBQ smoked meat be as tough as shoe leather? Very disappointed – $50 down the drain. I love BBQ and this is the worst BBQ place I have ever eaten. Very sad.
My step son and I were out for a drive from Gilroy and we happens apon Coles BBQ. Best stop of our road trip. The Ribs are huge and the Tri tip is to die for. I am going to hit this place up next time I’m in town. ID give it a ten out of ten!
