I wont be ordering from here for a long time. Lg eggplant & red pepper. Had so much cheese the center was undercooked & crust done. Cheese hardly melted & dough in center almost raw. A piece even folded completely over upon arrival. Even sucked after reheating. When cooked enough for the center to be edible the crust burned. Normally Sal’s is good but last couple of times not so much. Quite disappointing. Is consistently too much to expext?

Sal’s is my favorite. I love Sal’s pizza. If you’re looking for a New York style thin crust pizza this is it. Nice and crunchy. They are generous with the toppings. Good sauce and cheese and it stands up to my ‘day old test’ which is simply whether it’s good eating the next day. Nice family run business. If you’re in the mood for Mexican, go across the street to Sal’s wife’s place, Cucaramacara.

They make a pretty mean pie. Best I’ve had out of a gas oven.

Good apizza.. Yes, outside of New Haven we know it’s hard to find good apizza. I’m a huge fan of the traditional, which is basically a plain pie (that means no motz, and a little romano sprinkled on top. If I want pizza with motz, I’ll go to New York). And Sal’s has it. I always get mine with anchovies, which is actually very much in line with tradition, and if I were to rate it out of 10 stars, Sal’s apizza gets a 6. I took my pie to go, but the inside of the establishment is unassuming but comfortable. Maybe I’ll take some pics of that next time I head there. What didn’t rate the pizza higher was the quality of the anchovy and the sauce used. The anchovies could have been fresher (might I suggest getting small bottles of it to keep it fresher), and the sauce had to pow. It was just tomato, but there was no apparent oregano and/or basil, which can really make a good sauce pop. But like I stated, it wasn’t bad but I’ve had better apizza in the New Haven area (duh). Hands down way better than Wooster St.

Pizza. It’s ok but there’s better pizza in Meriden.
