Ok, it’s Italian-style food in an American restaurant. There’s still wine, bread and olive oil. The atmosphere is friendly. The service is efficient and accommodating. Unfortunately most dishes wind up super-sized in calories to appeal to American tastes. And they are appealing. Fried calamari comes with marinara sauce but try the spicy lemon butter sauce instead. Delicious. The chicken stuffed with prosciutto and cheese retains the wood smoked flavor of the grill while bathed in a buttery herb sauce. Is there anything that butter doesn’t make taste better? If there is, Carrabba’s puts a creamy cheese sauce on it instead. If you don’t mind lying on the food diary you’re keeping for your trainer, you can find lots of appealing dishes like these on the menu. But you’ll have to look more closely for healthier items. And if you want more authentic Italian, there are restaurants not five blocks away in either direction along U.S. 1. Keep looking.
Yes, It’s Italian Outback. Carrabba’s should really be classified as an American restaurant. At this one, I was disappointed that the squash ravioli was not on their menu. Still, they did a very adequate job on my carry-out order of the mussels in white wine (cozze in bianco– so I would get the feeling it was Italian) and a side Caesar salad, bread included. Together with a glass of Blue Moon from the hotel pantry, I settled in to watch Project Runway from the couch in front of the ginormous flat screen in my room.
Usually like Carrabbas. However, this one features watered down chicken soup with no zip, Dry chicken Alfredo and way undercooked steak. Avoid this location!!
Bad Salads. Bad bad bad. The Shrimp Caesar is basically tossed in a dressing that is so strong and unbearable to consume, that you would swear its 100% garlic and nothing else. I love garlic, but who wants that?! For decent Italian in a pinch, try Macaroni Grill instead. It is much better.
