We showed up last night with a party of 7, without reservations (totally our fault) so we did wait a bit for the table, but it was so worth it! This place is worlds better than your cookie cutter chain-Italian restaurants. Our food was amazing! About half the table got the lasagna, it was incredible (and huge!). The others had a variety of different items: lobster ravioli, chicken Parmesan, and Pesto Gnocci- everything was fantastic! I’m glad our friends recommended this place, we’ll definitely be back next time we are in the mood for Italian! stephsspot.com

Cozy spot for home style Italian. Giacomo’s is a banquet/restaurant spot that serves up generous portions at decent prices. I’ve dined there in both banquet and casual settings (the former being their forte) and was pleased about both visits. Their menu boasts a nice variety of authentic Italian dishes accompanied with multiple specials that are offered most nights. Some of the highlights include their cannelloni, which has a fantastic meat sauce poured over their freshly made pasta, and their sausage and peppers entree. The service was top notch and I never waited more than a few minutes for a water refill or for dishes to be cleared. My waiter even went as far to replenish the marinara sauce for my fried calamari (also good) without having to ask him. My only gripes are that the small dining area can leave you feeling a little cramped and the wine list, while creative, is extremely limited and what they do offer comes in tiny glasses. Still, it is worth a try for a nice relaxing night out.Pros: Big portions, great service, nice price point.Cons: Small, limited wine list.20 Jul, 2010Impressive. We went here for a lunch after my Grandfather’s wake. The spread included chicken Limon, sausage and peppers, mostaccioli, salad and bread. With exception of the chicken (which was a little bit too dry for me) everyone was impressed with their meals.Stand outs include the homemade garlic dressing and the sausage and peppers with red sauce. The setting is nice and relaxing and the service was pleasing. Not only was the manager patient with me while I was picking out selections for the lunch via phone, she also offered some of her own opinions on what to order. The experience we had there was refreshing after such a solemn occasion and I do hope to make a return visit.

I have been to Giacomo’s twice. Once for dinner and once for a funeral luncheon. They are wonderful, the food is awesome and the customer service is divine. I would highly recommend them to everyone whether you are looking for a family dinner, a romantic table for two or a large group. They can handle it all!! If you have not been here yet, go and go hungry!!

Che bello. I had high hopes even before I set foot in this place. Let’s face it, if you grew up in an Italian family chances are that you are not going to find a place that has better food than what you grew up with. This screams true for me; I always find myself disappointed with a majority of Italian restaurants that I go to. From the sugary out of a can tasting marinara sauce, to the mushy overcooked pasta, they can never seem to get it right. Giacomo’s definitely is the exception; we tried this place out last Saturday night (March 12th). Upon arrival, we were promptly seated in their packed dinning room. We were greeted by our server who was knowledgeable and efficient as he could be with 3 other tables in his station. We decided to start out with calamari and baked clams for appetizers. The clams were good but for me a little too mushy; the calamari was delicious and seasoned perfectly. For dinner, I decided to try their cannelloni; I was in love from the first bite! For my friends who don’t know what cannelloni is, it’s basically a large tube shape rolled pasta stuffed with seasoned ground beef and ricotta cheese. The dish is served with meat sauce and melted mozzarella. The portion is definitely large enough to share! I didn’t try any of their desserts but they did look very good on paper. If you are in Des Plaines and are looking for great Italian food give this place a try.
