Run if the mill sushi; I wasn’t impressed; same quality as everywhere else; freshness was ok. efficient but non-friendly service from a Japanese woman. cozy decor and quick food but there wasn’t a lot of people there at 7 pm on a Friday.
Dined at Oba several times and the food and service was always great. Highly recommended!
My husband and I are visiting from out of town and found this by luck! The service was friendly and prompt, the Ginger dressing was the best I’ve ever had. We had the Blackened Seared Tuna for and appetizer and it was paired with fresh jalapeo and cilantro. The flavor combinations made my taste buds sing! For dinner we had four different rolls with fresh tasting fish and delicious crisp veggies. Wish we could come back again and again!

Loved it!. I read about this place in Dish, Chicago Magazine’s newsletter. Living in Des Plaines, I’ve been searching for great sushi. This place was fantastic! The rolls were really unique and the presentation was great. I went with a friend and the pricing was reasonable too. A great addition to the neighborhood.
Oba Contemporary Japanese – delicious new NW suburb sushi restaurant. Just dined at Oba Contemporary Japanese in Des Plaines, and it was very very good. Open for lunch, we studied the multipage menu and tried many different appetizers, specialty maki that were each so creative, and cooked kitchen items – try the braised shortrib! Everything was so tasty, with homemade sauces, superfresh sushi and sashimi, cold Japanese bottled beers, and gracious service. Highly recommend to other sushi lovers. Near O’Hare airport…on Elmhurst Road a mile north of I-90 West on the east side of the street in a tiny strip mall, just south of W. Dempster. Enjoy!
