We booked an 8:30pm reservation through Open Table for dinner after a concert and arrived a few minutes early. Upon arrival, we were informed that our reservation was made on the sushi side and not the hibachi side. Not sure why this was the case because I was not asked on Open Table to specify, nor did I even know to specify as this was my first time visiting Shinto. The host rudely informed us that since we made the reservation on the wrong side, we would have to wait 15 mins for a hibachi table. There were about 5 parties in the entire restaurant at this time, but it still took 15 mins to seat us. By the time we were seated and able to look at menus, we were told the kitchen was closing and would have to put our order in right away. Everything was rushed from that point. As soon as we ordered, we were told to decide about dessert because again, the kitchen was closing. I might give this place a second chance, but begrudgingly. If you’re open until 9pm, and you take reservations and seat parties until that time, the kitchen should be held to serve those patrons reasonably through their meal. Otherwise, change the closing time or don’t take reservations past a certain time. The meat was salty and overpriced. Not sure I’d go again unless with a group who insisted to try it. The host’s negativity, very pressured/rushed service and the harsh lighting didn’t feel inviting and we ended up under-impressed with the whole experience. I was bummed having heard great reviews from friends. Very expensive meal for 4 of us to be rushed through and treated the way we were. The hibachi chef was good, which earned the 2 rating from me, otherwise it would be 1 star.

Revisited and Mike was great, may have caught him on a bad day last visit. The service was very great, as well as the food and presentation. I recommend going during happy hour on weekdays.03 Aug, 2013Mike was the server and seemed as if he didn’t want to be there. The potion for the fried spicy tuna roll was small and I usually get larger slices of sashimi. There was only about 7 customers and I was hoping for great service and great food but both were mediocre at best. Not a place I’d o to again for lunch.
I wanted to try sushi first time in my life and one of my friends took me here for a dinner. I loved it and since then I had been here many times for sushi. They also have discounted prices for various things in the evening hours on week days. I had been to try the discounted rolls few times with friends from work and the food is great every time. I love the ambience too. I have never tried hibachi yet as every time I went I ended up eating sushi as it is so good. This place become our favorite sushi place.
I’ve been to Shinto probably a half a dozen time in the past year. The food has always been great, the service used to be great, but the last couple times it has been HORRIBLE!! We had reservations and arrived 30 minutes before time, we waited 1 hour and 15 minutes till we were seated. Once we were seated our waiter Angelo came to our table with a bad attitude not friendly or helpful at all. He took our sushi order and basically disappeared until we flagged him down to order more, or get our bill. We were very disappointed in the service and won’t be back. Shinto blows!!!
Shinto was awesome. My favorite by far is the captain jack roll. I am definately coming back for more!!
Volcano Roll and Scallops. About 20 of us will be spending the New Years here. I’ll be having the Scallops with garlic butter topping at the hibachi grill. Fantastic. Live band and no cover charge! My favorite sushi roll is the volcano. Happy hour 3-6PM on weekdays. I stop in at least twice a month to meet friends for half price select sushi rolls. Swanky bar and great vibe. Shinto is my new favorite Sushi place in the Naper/Aurora area.
