A new concept has come to Shreveport with the opening of Green House Salad Co. the second location of this Lake Charles eatery. A bright open space welcomes you as you step up to the counter to order one of their creations or have them assemble one of your own. The fresh ingredients are laid out assembly line style so you can see what is available to customize your creation. The salads come in a aluminum bowl about the size of Jason’s Deli’s salad bowl. There are vegan choices as well as meats available to top the salads. They do offer a few toppings you won’t see at Jason’s with a bright Kale mix, grilled tofu, quinoa and multigrain croutons among them. They also offer infused tea, lemonade and water. Somewhat strangely, they have conventional sodas too, guess they can’t go all healthy? The prices are ok, all salads are in the $9 range, comparable to most fast casual salads. Jason’s Deli is the obvious competition, I’ve been hoping for one on Youree for years. Since you can get an all-you-can-eat salad bar for this price at Jason’s, and the quality is similar, I still prefer Jason’s to this new place. The lack of any music playing and the layout made our visit a bit awkward feeling, possibly the kinks of a new operation, but the absence of a manager or even anyone over college age on staff concerns me.
