Frigid experience. On New Years Eve, my wife and I brought two other family members to the Maplewood Osaka for a special New Years Eve dinner. We had reservations for four at 8:00 p.m. It was cold out and it would be great to have a nice dinner cooked at the table. What happened was a bit shocking. Chef Tim came out and prepared a very nice dinner complete with some entertainment. As he finished, all eight guests at our table were still eating. As soon as he left, the vent fans were turned off and within one minute, all of our food was cold, we all had to put on our coats, and we could actually see our breath!! Food was left uneaten, drinks were left half full, and all eight rushed to leave this frigid experience. I complained to our waitress, and she informed us that management requires turning off the fans as soon as the cooking is done. I escalated my dissatisfaction to someone who may have been a manager on duty and he provided some explanation about gas levels!?! All eight guests found this explanation unacceptable. I spent $165.38 ($143.38 + $22.00 tip) and found this experience to be totally unacceptable. What kind of restaurant allows this type of experience to happen to their guests? I know it was a very cold night, however, we live and Minnesota and I would expect a reputable restaurant would figure out a way to provide a comfortable experience for their customers. I contacted them and they offered me a $50 gift card!!??!

The maplewood location was terrible. I never leave reviews for restaurants but felt this time it was necessary. We walked in and stood at the hostess table for 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. It was a Friday night and they only had 4 hibachi chefs. We were served our soup and salad and a chef had yet to come to our grill. The weather wasn’t great so it was raining and all of the sudden the rain started leaking through multiple vents in the restaurant and on top of our grill. We paid for our drinks and left. Needless to say I will not be wasting my time there again
Best service I have ever had at this price range of a restaurant. Ever…
Good Sushi for the Price…BUT…. I’ve been to Osaka in Maplewood for the lunch buffet 4 times now in the last year and have been pleased at the quality of sushi for the price. Their service has always been attentive and helpful. Over the visits, though, I have noticed the sushi chefs withhold certain varieties of sushi for longer periods than others. This is especially true for the Sake (salmon) Maki. Two out of my last 4 visits (both sit-down and take out) and they have not put any of that variety out. It seems as though they put out 3 or 4 types of Tuna Maki before they will replenish a Sake. This is how they keep costs low. Unfortunately for me, Sake Maki is my favorite and when they do finally put it out it’s gone in a second. Variety also seems to be less in their last hour of buffet (1 – 2 pm).
Good food for price u pay. Better sushi than other sushi buffet I’ve been to. Great selection if hot foods too. Friendly staff. Will definitely go back.
Eight of us just went for the lunch buffet today. Everyone really enjoyed it… including the two 4 year olds. The sushi was very good and plentiful! The gents preparing the sushi were especially friendly, and helped explain the different sushi offerings to the little kids. We will definitely be back. I barely even touched the hot food line, I was too busy with the sushi line, but the tempura and clams were good. Go there!
