Long time patron—Hidden Gem—The braised lamb shank is great.. Spiro’s is a hidden gem of a restaurant. I have eaten there many times over the past 10 years. The food and service have been great every time. Their steaks are great but the braised lamb shank is what Greek gods dream about. If you have never tried a lamb shank do not be afraid you will love it.
Long time visitor. I have only eaten at Spiro’s on Watson, I take the family there or visitors once or twice a year, but I first started in Dec. 1978. It as always been good food (I usually order GREEK food at a Greek restraint), the staff have always been great, and from being single, to married, to small kids to young adults, they have ALWAYS have been great for families, not many people can say/do that!!
CLASSY upscale FANTASTIC MEAL!!. Many times when i’ve eaten in such a nice restaurant i’ve left hungry. NOT the case here!! We had an appetizer of Saganaki (Fried Kasseeri Cheese), flamed and cooked at the table. My wife had Chicken Spedini that was just moist perfect deliciousness! I had the Athenian Broil Strip that was just decadent!! Both meals were generously portioned, had a twice baked potato and vegetable medley with them. FANTASTIC FOOD, EXCELLENT SERVICE!! Take a date, take your family, TREAT YOURSELF!!
Ordered Shrimp Saganaki and the shrimp was awful. I made a comment to the manager who was apologetic and brought me the beef kebab which was divine. Nice place, excellent service, bad shrimp. Would go back for the beef for sure.
Friendly, good food, and reasonably priced. I eat at Spiro’s probably once a week for lunch. It’s always a good experience. The soups are always delicious. The staff will recognize you if you have been there before. And you can eat a real meal for <$15. I mean, why go eat at Panera for $10-12 when you can get a full meal here. What is most telling, is that every time I go, the same patrons are always there!
Depends…. If you’re looking for a highbrow restaurant serving Greek food, you’ll be disappointed. If you’re looking for a classic Greek joint with lots of south side character you’ll enjoy Spiro’s. We made a reservation but it didn’t matter, we waited. But the hostess/waitress/owner buzzed around and got us seated without too much pain. We waited again to order but never got the chance, she came buzzing by and told us to try the saganiki a flaming cheese appetizer. So we did as we were told. And glad. Fun flames and good eats. Then she offered to get us some salads, sure, of course. The result was good greek salad as you would expect. For entrees we got a chance to have some input but not without some guidance and we were pleased with the outcome. No room for dessert. Good food, good value, good service if a little quirky, and ambiance like what happens when a diner grows up — whats not to like?
A great meal. Amazing service. Great prices. I will be going back for sure. Best service I’ve had in months. Made us feel at home and had no problem describing menu items and wine.
