Consistently good. I’ve been to Bixby’s for brunch at least 4-5 times now and I feel confident about additing to my favorites list. They always have creative well prepared dishes wit a seleciton of chicken, beef, pasta, breakfast items and a nice choice of salads, fruit, cheeses and desserts. The service is terrific and we’ve never had a bad experience.24 Jul, 2011Sunday Brunch. I have had Sunday brunch at Bixby’s twice recently and found it to be quite good both times.Ambience: This restaurant (formerly Merriweather’s), is in the Missouri Historical Museum on the 2nd floor and has a wall of windows overlooking Forest Park. It is elegant and classy with white table cloths, nice historical photos on the wall and cool, contemporary china. It’s a great setting.Service: The service was very attentive to our table each time, starting with Champagne or Bloody Mary, if desired, and coffee. Used plates were quickly removed from the table. And the gentleman who manages the buffet keeps close watch over it to make sure nothing runs out.Food: There are three main tables set up for the buffet. The first has several salads, fruit and cheeses. The fresh fruit was very good, as was the Thai Slaw, the chilled green beans, the smoked salmon and the selection of cheese. The second table has a nice selection of desserts including mini chocolate creme brulee, brownies, gooey butter cake, scones and pudding with fruit. There is also bisquits and gravy here. On the last table are the main entree’s. On the most recent visit there was a penne pasta in tomato sauce with fresh basil that was outstanding; the bacon and sausage were excellent as always; the roasted chicken was very tender and tasty; we were not as impressed with the sliced beef as we had been the first time. There is also a menu, included in the brunch, that allows you to order such things as eggs benedict, omelettes, and bread pudding from the kitchen. The brunch price is about $22 per person. It’s one of the better brunches in town in my opinion. 4/5 stars.
I was impressed with the great service and overall spread on the brunch buffet. Some places have too much food and you leave feeling disgusting. Bixby’s was just right for me. Not overwhelming. And it was also fantastic they have a menu you can order from (included in the buffet). I had a fried egg panini on a delicious focaccia bread with scallion cream cheese and gruyere. It was delicious and not too big so I could enjoy more. I thought the waffle was delicious, the bread pudding incredible and all the desserts yummy. My only disappointment was that the bagels to go with the smoked salmon were so tough (and there was no toaster)!!! Other than that, I didn’t need to eat anything the rest of the day and we ate brunch at 10:30. I recommend giving it a try.
My husband and I went for a romantic Valentines brunch last year. We were so impressed with the beautiful table settings and the view of Forest Park. The food was fresh, even though it was a buffet and the al la carte items were fantadtic! Can’t wait to be back, wish it was cheaper, but we totally agree the price is reasonable for the quality of food. Best brunch buffet, ever.
