We stopped in here simply because of the neon sign, and TheAngryEater will tell you that it was well worth it. We both had the grilled cheese, which is the quintessential diner food. Plus at $5 for a grilled cheese with fries (or upgrade to onion rings for an extra 50 cents) this place is a great deal. The service was friendly and helpful — no problem making grilled cheese with two kinds of cheese, provided information about the diner and the Delmar Loop area — we couldn’t have asked for better service. The grilled cheese was good, but that is to be expected, it is simply grilled cheese. The fries, TheAngryEater notes are shoestring-style fries that maximize the crispiness that everyone craves. These came out piping hot and were delicious. Similarly, TheAngryEater found the onion rings to be quite crispy and hot, with a nice sweet onion taste.Overall, TheAngryEater loves the ambiance and found the food to be quite good, but TheAngryEater also knows enough to order, and expect, diner-style food in a diner.Grrr,TheAngryEater

A friend of mine claimed he heard a burger calling to him just before lunch, and it was a burger from this place. We had passed it the previous evening and liked the look of it, but kept on walking after checking out the really bad reviews on this site. This time, though, we took the plunge. The place itself is stylish in the extreme: a series of U-shaped counters echoing diners of the distant pass (i.e., our childhoods) updated with colour-changing LED lights embedded; lots of steel and glass and a couple of Skee-ball lanes and blonde wood and cool tile. The full bar up front is a little out of place but, well, you know, there’s money in booze.Really, I don’t know what all the fuss is about. The service was not perfect but it was certainly good enough; the food was at least average. His was a plain burger (literally, plain: no lettuce, no tomato, no nuthin’, but that’s how he ordered it) with fries and a half-order of onion rings; mine was a shrimp po-boy with tater tots. I didn’t try his burger, but did try his fries and rings; both were, as I said, at least average. If you like the kind of breading on the rings you’d probably like these; I’m not wild about it but otherwise found nothing to object to in the preparation. My po-boy was overstuffed, which is good, although the shrimp were of only moderate quality. Again, average. Lots of them though, and lots of all the other stuff that goes into a dressed po-boy. Prices, too, were average.THE CURMUDGEON’S RATINGS:FOOD: 2 1/2 chili peppers (out of five) (i.e., average)SERVICE: 2 1/2 chili peppersAMBIENCE: 4 chili peppersVALUE: 2 1/2 chili peppers

I really think this place has a potential to be a great hangout spot for different times of the day but for some reason they can’t seem to figure out how to handle the service quality or management… The first time we were here was their first day of business and the service was really slow, we thought we should give them another chance. Months later we visited again during summer, even though it was sticky hot, they weren’t running the a.c. We mentioned the situation to one or two people and they still wouldn’t do anything about it so we spent 20 miserable mins max and got out of there… Every once in a while we stop by only for pie and/or coffee but definitely needs improvement.

Low quality food, overpriced. Service is abysmal. The concept and location of the diner is amazing for college students out late at night. Unfortunately their service is far below acceptable by anyone’s standards

Love the Concept, hate the food. This place has so much potential, but the food is overpriced and awful. Tried the corndog, onion rings and country fried steak. Major misses. Change the food! Service was fine, no complaints–appreciated the diversity.

Nice Decor food bland. My daughters and I visited this restaurant one Saturday afternoon. Relatively empty our waitress Mo was great. We ordered omelettes, bland and tasteless. When asked how much for an extra biscuit $2.50 Way overpriced! Needless to say I will not be returning again.
