Stopped in without a reservation one hour before a Husker Men’s Basketball game at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Seated within 10 minutes. Ordered Island Chick Salad and Squid Salad with two shared plates of Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura. Our server Davis was attentive, quick, and professional. We made it to the 8:00 pm tipoff with time to spare.

Good food but….. We were not disappointed by the food, it is as good as everyone says. Our issue stems from how busy they were. It’s a nice problem for a restaurant to have but the service suffers because of it. We were told the wait for a table would be 35 minutes, that’s fine and it was about thirty minutes when we were seated, at an empty table we had been standing next to for the last 30 minutes. This table was pretty close to the door, so we were not only crowded by the other patrons waiting for their table (they don’t have adequate room to handle people waiting) but on this very cold evening we got a full blast of frigid air every time the door opened. All in all, not the most pleasant experience. There are other really good Sushi places in town that I will probably go back to before going back to Blue.
Feeling Blue. A midweek lunch showed several sides of Blue. Service is prompt, but not without confusion. Immediately upon being seated I asked for hot tea. I had no idea that is such a difficult thing to accomplish. I was informed they had multiple hot teas. The waiter strongly recommended the jasmine tea, which coincidentally is my favorite, so I readily agreed. A few moments later the waiter returned with the printed tea menu, and apologized that they were out of jasmine tea (?). Not sure how that could happen, as tea bags aren’t exactly difficult to inventory. So I chose another, orange blossom or something like that. Well, a few moments later the waiter returned again, exclaiming they were out of that one too. This wasn’t going well. He had written out a slip of paper with the few teas that were in inventory, and I selected one of those.Eventually the pot of tea arrived, as did my crab and coconut soup, which comes with a smoky baby ear of corn and a crab stick. This is one of Blue’s signature dishes, and shouldn’t be missed. The rich flavor of the soup is a delight to behold.I also ordered a ginger salad, which is very good. It was part of the lunch menu special, which allows diners to order two sushi items and a salad or miso soup for about $11.My two sushi rolls were both delicious as well. Each was brought to the table separately, for some reason, so I was forced to eat the first one before the second one arrived. That wasn’t the way it should be.My only other complaint was that whoever rang my bill up didn’t give me the lower luncheon price for my meal. I had to bring it to the waiter’s attention, and even then he seemed unwilling at first to correct the error. I persisted, and he reluctantly took it back for correction. I got charged $5 for the tea, which floored me, as I ended up with my third choice. That is poor restaurant management. I’m not sure how a restaurant in Lincoln gets away charging $5 for tea, then fails to even stock many of the teas they list on their menu.In summary, great food, but frustrating service. The chefs know their stuff, but the managers need to go back to school.Food: AAtmosphere: A-Service: B-Menu Sophistication: A-Value: B-
