This place upsets me. I don’t understand how a place called bread and cup would only served brewed coffee. Or how an establishment that proudly displays culinary books (amongst them one from Escoffier) but does not have an espresso machine. Their highly regarded cinnamon roll was sugary, soulless, and had very little cinnamon. Service is confusing.
Dodgy Food Good Beer and ambiance. I have had everything on the menu and attended several special dinners. I no longer eat at B & C, but do like to go there for drinks with friends. The porch is pleasant on a summer night and the selection of mostly regional beers is usually good.I am sorry to say, that with the exception of the bread, the food is, in general not sensitively made. I have worked in a lot of kitchens and I know it hard to be consistently good, but this kitchen only occasionally turns out food I would want to eat again. Brutal is how I would describe their use of raw garlic in their hummus, olive tapenade, pesto and gnocchi. Heavy metallic overtones sometimes pervade the pork. Many of the special entrees have similarly major flaws. My sense is that the chef Kevin, may get swept up in faddish ideas about food, but that he lacks a solid understanding of many cooking basics. He certainly seems to hold his work in high esteem so I rather doubt we will see much improvement. If you have to eat here they do usually have a good selection of cheeses and so a Ploughman or the bread and cheese plate are safe choices. The soups are very hit an miss, but can be very good. They do on rare occasions turn out nice special entrees too.That said, the bread may be the best in town. They really have it down. And I doubt you could find a better cinnamon roll anywhere (and I have searched world wide!).
Poor food, and overpriced to boot. If you charge $16 for a hamburger, you should at least know how to cook one. Mine was way over cooked and too salty. Not really enjoyable at all. Service was mediocre at best. Nothing at all to recommend.
Disappointing at best… What a disappointing experience. I’ve eaten there many times at lunch and always found it to be good, however this was my first time at dinner and I won’t be back. Service was incredibly slow. We ordered two entrees, two salads and one appetizer as an entree. Our appetizer came out first and not with dinner as we had requested- and since it served hot we went ahead and ate it. The salads came out dry and not with the creamy parmesan listed in the description in the menu. The two entrees came out and were extremely disproportionate in size. We expressed this concern to our server and she took them away, then came back of offer us a different entree. We explained that we didn’t even try them, that the size of one was double that of the other. 20 minutes later the entrees returned and they were tiny and the food very, very salty. I was embarrassed that I recommended this to my friends and we all walked away hungry and not impressed at all with the food or service. Bread and Cup, you can do better.. much better.
Best Pork sandwhich ever! Apple cream sauce is amazing!
I think the food is excellent. Hearty and appropriate sized portions – not too big, but filling. This is the first place I had hummus and liked it. Service varies. Sometimes excellent, usually okay, sometimes really bad. Today for example, we had to repeat our orders multiple times, yet the food that arrived was not correct.
