Good food, great value. Central Restaurant, at the corner of Central Ave and Halsey St in downtown Newark, within walking distance of the business district, Rutgers-Newark, and the NJ Institute of Technology, is the standard highwayside ‘Jersey Diner’ shrunk down and transplanted to a city street corner. Entree platters run about $8-$9 (OK, Broiled Sirloin Steak is $11.75), and there’s a wide selection of sandwiches and salads, and a full breakfast menu. Decor is spartan but clean, and you won’t go away hungry.
