Horrible experience. Although the servers are great, the staff that prepares the food seems miserable. They are lackadaisical, inconsiderate, and don’t seem enthusiastic about their jobs. This isn’t the first time I’ve had such an experience here, but it will be the last.

Wow! And didn’t even get to taste any food. Went to the Newark Dinosaur BBQ. Arrived shortly after 5pm and was told that the wait would be 30 to 45 minutes. Ok we thought since the game started at 7. So 5:30 rolls around and I go to check. Still at least 20 names ahead of us. 5:45 comes up and I go to check back on status. Still 18 names ahead of us and the greeter says another 30 minutes before we will get a seat. At this rate, we should get seated oh around 8.Asked her why another 30 minutes and she says the kitchen is backed up and people are waiting for food. Now it’s 6:00 and I try her again. Looks like the same list of names are waiting ahead of us. She says probably another 30 minutes. Place was packed, so we couldn’t even order and try to eat standing. 6:15 rolls around and I check again. Same 30 minute wait she says. We see a group of frustrated people at a table. They have been waiting over 30 minutes and still no food. With this pattern, we won’t get seated before 7 and then the food will get to us by 8. We walked out, disappointed and hungry. Also saw food left on the plates being taken away. Either means that the food wasn’t that great or they served too much. Judging by the place, it is probably the former. If I could give this place a zero I would.

Way overrated.. I was quite disappointed in my experience here, especially after years of hearing about the food. My ribs were tasteless, the corn muffin tasted stale. I did love the whipped sweet potatoes, they were great. Service was friendly but mediocre at best. Our group if 4 went with empty drinks most of our meal. Overall, I rate this a 5 out of possible 10. I don’t think I would go back.

Outstanding Dinner @ Dinosaur. Just returned from a fabulous NJ BBQ dinner at Dinosaur in Newark. Easy convenient safe parking, reservations honored perfectly. Greated enthusiastically by Christian who was warm, cordial and very informative throughout our visit. He provided attentive service, always present when we needed something and quick to offer some personal suggestions when one person in our group seemed a bit hesitant in her ordering. Dining out at this level is a social event and Christian is an outstanding representative of the Dinosaur team.Yes it is a ‘chain’ in the sense they have maybe 10 franchises in the NorthEast but the food is not some mass produced cryovac Baggie reheat to serve. On the other hand it is not quite like going to a southern BBQ pit or shed where you can watch the meats being smoked. The fact is the foods were well prepared. Upon entering you immediately smell wood smoke and the flavor was evident in all the meats we tasted including pulled port, sliced brisket, pork ribs and chicken parts. The sides were equally well prepared. No generic Mac and Cheese here but rather a cheddar sauce that demands attention along with BBQ beans that steer clear of sweeteners in favor of smoke and spices. Fresh, still crunchy cole slaw with a creamy ranch flavor and corn bread muffins that were hot and steaming from the oven. All in all a great dinner. Perhaps not the best Q ever sampled, that honor goes to Saw’s in B’ham tied with Arthur Bryant’s in KC but for NJ, for downtown Newark, for a wonderful dinner this was really beyond my expectations.

Great friendly service. Staff was very knowledgeable of the menu. Food was great! We had the skirt steak & BBQ brisket sandwich. The fried green tomatoes were truly amazing! Kid friendly highly recommend .
