Great if you like bland food. This restaurant is part of the hotel. The food portions are adequate. The service is tolerable. But the food – can some tell the chef where to find some spices. Heck – I’d settle for salt and pepper. The last time we ate here, the food was under cooked – come on, undercooked chicken. I think that they simply could not handle the size of the crowd that night. we won’t be returning.
Good …. Good & Terrible. I went to Maize a couple of weeks ago. The Bartender questioned me about a glass of water. Didn’t know I had to pay for a glass of Ice. My family and friends where given wrong food items along with incorrrect prices. The atmosphere was not Friendly.
Almost A-Maize-ing. I stayed at the Robert Treat hotel when I was in Newark on business. Since I didn’t have a car and there didn’t seem to be anything appealing within walking distance, I ate at the hotel a couple of times.Maize is an elegant, romantic, white table cloth kind of place–definitely a cut above most hotel restaurants. I had a truly wonderful lunch. The soup de jour was a very nice, light vegetable soup with rich flavor. The lunch special I chose was chicken breast in a red sauce served with rice and broccoli. The chicken was melt-in-your-mouth tender and tasty. The service was very good. For dinner, I ate at the bar and I ordered some fish–a Portugese Bacalhau, which I had never tried before. The presentation was very nice, with a large filet smothered in roasted peppers and onions and served with some sliced, baked potatoes. The fish was done well, but it seemed to have very little flavor and even the onions and peppers were kind of tasteless. The potatoes had more going for them. The bar service was a tad slow, but still very competent. So I suppose it’s a bit of a hit-and-miss proposition here, and it is a bit pricey, but you could do worse.
AWFUL. My friend and I had dinner there this evening and the food was inedible. I was charged $22 for a limp salad, $8.00 for an over-egged creme brulee and the wine ordered, which I had had previously, had a horrible metallic taste.I will never eat there again.
