Mako in soy sauce – YOU MUST TRY!!!. Smitty’s Clam Bar has the best seafood in south Jersey for the best price. I ate there this past weekend with a friend from out of town, and (as usual,) we were thrilled. I’ve been coming to the Clam Bar for well over a decade, and I would give it a delicious 5 star rating each and every time. I ordered the Mako shark served in olive oil and soy sauce… This dish is a must try for all first-timers. If it is available on the board, GET IT! It would be a crime for at least one person in a party of three or more to not order one for the table to sample. The tenderness of the shark makes it so easy to pull apart, and it melts right in your mouth with the delicious soy sauce, which makes it light enough with the olive oil to take away the over saltiness of the soy. This dish was worth the forty minute wait to sit at the bar, and I would wait for it again, no doubt! Smitty’s is the treasure chest of seafood in all of south Jersey, and everyone must try it once in their life.
LOVE it! Waited an hour but the food comes out within 10 minutes so it’s worth the wait. NE clam chowder was amazing!
Best clams/oysters/shrip& crab burgers. A ten for shore!
Great Local Place. The line is long and so is the wait!Well worth all of it as the staff is gracious and the food is very good along with the prices.
A must stop place then a tradition. Was there AGAIN Tuesday August 14th, 2012. Ordered the usual bowl of clam chowder, fries and tea. BYOB. We stayed at Somers Point is 2008 and found this jewel of a place by chance. Got there at 12 noon with hardly a wait. Ordered the clam chowder and that was all it took. Without a doubt, the best clam chowder I have ever had. Very thick, creamy and BIG chunks of clams in almost every bite. Now it is a tradition that my brother in law and I go there for lunch no matter where we stay at the shore. Clam Chowder and raw clams (nice and thick with no grit). The day I leave, this is my last stop before leaving the shore. I always get 4-5 quarts of chowder to take home with us. Great family setting, service is awesome no matter how busy. We eat outside at the counter, get the breeze off the bay and are always stuffed when we leave. This place is AWESOME.
Smitty’s Clam Bar: Classic. I’ve been eating at Smitty’s for more than 25 years. It’s far from gourmet. The casseroles are eh, OK, for the people who don’t know better. BUT, this place is for the purists, CLAMS on the half, steamers, U-Peels and CHOWDER. Bring a cold six pack or wine, eat outside and feel the breeze. A shore classic!!
Don’t order the tuna!!! And buy some pepto
