I have been going to Hardware on a regular basis since they opened, when was it? 2004 or 2005? With that said, I have never had a problem with service and mostly positive with the food (sometimes your tastebuds just don’t agree when you try new things, that is not the fault of the restaurant). With that said, I most often sit at the bar with either a glass of Malbec or an Old Fashioned and will most often order a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon (my favorite/old standby) and a basket of fries with the dipping sauces. Make sure to dip your fry in both of the sauces and eat with it all together. I should just start mixing the two sauces together, but it’s more fun to double dip!Last night one of the special sandwiches was a tempura soft shell crab with bacon, avocado mousse and I believe greens with a truffle oil. DELICIOUS!! I wanted a second. Thank goodness I let my stomach settle before ordering another. It was that good. But like I said, I never have had a problem with service. Everyone is always nice, attentive and I always have a great time because of them!!
While visiting Buffalo, we wanted to get a little taste of the nightlife. A friend who lives in town suggested Allen St. The entire area was fabulous–so much to see and do. We noticed Allen St. Hardware Cafe, read a few reviews and decided it was a must-try. As we stepped into the bar, we were instantly transported to different time. Calvin, the bartender, greeted us immediately as we sat down at the bar, helped us pick out a beer, engaged us in conversion and addressed us by name for the rest of the evening. For dinner, I ordered the Portobello Panini with goat cheese….so good! My husband ordered the BLT which was really fantastic. We each shared the sandwiches and ate them to the last crumb. Great place to visit…highly recommended by us!
