Disappointed. We had heard such great things about Sugar Shack that it pains me to write this review. From the very beginning things were rocky. We had an appointment for a tasting and when we showed up, the woman we were supposed to meet with wasn’t there. She had forgotten about us and didn’t tell the other staff. So we ended up having to wait for her to rush over, and had a very impromptu tasting. We were a bit irritated right off the bat, but the taste of their cakes made up for that in a hurry. We showed them a picture of the cake we envisioned, which depicted a worn, leathery brown/yellow baseball. We were assured it would be no problem to replicate this cake. I don’t know where the communication breakdown happened, but when we first saw the cake (walking over to cut it during our reception), I almost lost it. The cake definitely looked like a baseball – but bright white. It looked like a 10 year old’s birthday cake. We were so extremely disappointed. The flavor, once again, was astoundingly good. The design however was way off the mark. When we got home the next day, the first thing I did was email Sugar Shack and ask what happened – and it’s now been 10 days and I have not received a response. I sadly cannot recommend Sugar Shack to do any custom work for you. Their cakes taste fantastic, but the customer service and design aspect were highly lacking.
Just visited this little bakery and although the prices are a bit high, you won’t be disappointed. The employees are welcoming and the pastries are fabulous. We didn’t go for lunch, but I heard their croissant sandwiches are great. Be ready to stare at all they offer because it is a lot and all looks so good.
May Not Get Back to the Sugar Shack. Take your sugar daddy to the Sugar Shack . . . you are going to need the extra bread at this bakery. Prices are definitely in the upper moderate range. I enjoyed the cheddar biscuits we bought at half price as they were a day old. I had to think twice about purchasing anything else though . . . and the death knell for me was asking myself if I really needed any cookies etc. at the prices they are charging.I appreciate the job they do . . . getting up at dark thirty to begin the baking process. I just don’t place quite the value they do on the finished products.
Sugar Shack has a growing offering of gluten free items… Cupcakes, cookies & even cakeballs! Yum!23 Jun, 2012Now Sugar Shack offers baguettes & other fresh breads20 Aug, 2011Where has this place been my whole life??!! Wimberley has needed a walk in bakery for some time! I’m so glad The Sugar Shack opened this location. You can still order custom cakes, but now you can pop in for a cinnamon roll or a loaf of bread or some cake balls… Many more items but I won’t list them all… I hear they are even working on offering KOLACHIES!!! Yummmmm!!!!
Bakery is always right. I had a negative experience with Sugar Shack Bakery. I had them make my wedding cake and grooms cake. I was already informed they were not that good at decorating the cakes but we were ok after our tasting. During the tasting we picked the flavors we wanted and specifically asked to exclude nuts from the cake due to a child with a nut allergy. Not like a skin allergy but like a STOP BREATHING allergy. To our surprise the day of the wedding the cake had nuts in the cake. As if that was not bad enough we contacted the owner after the wedding and she basically said we were liars but agreed to give a partial refund. After about 3 weeks we contacted the bakery and she decided not to give the refund. And probably the worst part of experience with the Sugar Shack was when I questioned about the refund she claimed she had it confused with another customer and stated she was not at fault and said she spoke to our vendors we used in Wimberley and said that we were very unorganized and she confirmed that with our other vendors. It was amazing our other vendors were wonderful and very helpful but all the Sugar Shack did for us was completely destroy our wedding cake and then take no responsibility for taking our money for a cake that we did not order and then blame us for their mistake. They offered a 150 credit toward their products in the bakery. This is an offer I will not take.
