Absolutely horrendous! I have never had a meal so bad, not merely the food, the drinks were inexpertly mixed to be nice, the wine was atrocious. The phrase too easy got to be too much to bear. I honestly felt sorry for the waitresses in the end, I have no idea how they could continually place plates filled with such garbage in front of customers and then expect them to pay. Even the cutlery was atrocious. Just dont!
Run…run away!!! Worst of the worst!!!YOUVE BEEN WARNED!! $123 2 past used by date frozen McCains pizzas, 3 coronas and a schnitzel that resembles a dry sponge!
Using UberEATS, I received the most underwhelming meal I think I have ever seen. For $70.00 which paid for two pasta dishes and arancini, I expected the medium sized containers to at the very least be full. Sadly, the half filled containers and soggy arancini led me to immediately call the restaurant and ask for what I presumed to be an error corrected. I was very bluntly told that it wasnt their problem, to call UberEATS and if I didnt like the food to throw it out. My Labrador seemed to like it though.
Staff were lovely but that’s the only good thing.Food was extremely overpriced for what you get, and you could easily make better for less at home. Cheese balls were okay, but bland and nothing special. Sausage and pea fettuccine was frozen peas (still hard, starchy, bland), cheap sausages and really bland. Prawn spaghetti with lime and coriander tasted like a couple of prawns with tinned tomatoes and a tiny squeeze of lime. Overall very bland as well and uninspiring. Pasta was undercooked, which was surprising considering how long it took to come out.Ordered a side of veggies as well which never came – even though we were one of only three tables in the whole restaurant. Didn’t end up paying for them.Restaurant looks and feels like an old 80s bistro in a club and really does not match the menu prices. Of which, the menu still looks and sounds like something from the 90s, printed from Word ’95.Overall? Avoid completely, don’t waist your time or money – there is so much better in Braddon, and more authentic.
Sigh. Disappointing, and not a ‘good deal’. We decided to give The Haig Italian Restaurant, an ‘award-winning’ restaurant, a go, finally, when we saw a deal for it on LivingSocial. It was pretty disappointing. Upon walking in I was astounded by the local club bistro feel of the place – tacky laminate tables (not even any table cloths) and vinyl covered bistro chairs in a mustard colour straight from the 70s. The floor tiles looked grubby and old. The place completely lacked ambience and would be so improved with some table cloths, new chairs and perhaps some brighter pictures on the walls. I felt ridiculously overdressed in a nice dress, jewelery and heels. Totally overkill for the surroundings. The friendly girl at the desk escorted us to our table, asking if we’d like a glass each of the ‘house’ wine that came as part of the LivingSocial deal. She couldn’t tell us what the house wine was except a ‘chardonnay’, leading us to suspect it’s a cleanskins job of some sort. We thought we might prefer to order from the wine list (this would cost extra as the voucher only allowed for house wines). She walked away and totally forgot us. It was a good 10-15 min before we managed to flag the attention of another waitress. The new waitress again couldn’t tell us what the house wine was, so we just risked it and went with one glass of that for my fiance, and a different wine from the menu for me.The deal also turned out to include only one entree between 2, and 2 mains. Of course when you’re out for dinner you’d both like to have an entree and main, so we sucked it up and ordered another entree for $18 – prosciutto wrapped chicken breast, and our two mains (both ordered the beef tenderloin). The entree came out and was quite average. The chicken was a strange texture (almost like pre-packaged chicken breast?), cut into small pieces (not a whole breast wrapped), served atop what I am pretty sure was jar tomato chutney. It was ok, edible but nothing particularly amazing. The entrees were $18 each. The mains came out and were passable. The beef was cooked to our liking. The mash was quite nice. The presentation was ok. The side of potato skins we had ordered were really yummy and crispy. But the steamed veges were less than bistro quality – undercooked carrots, cauliflower and broccoli. We got through our meal and were pretty full. Unfortunately, due to the awful lack of ambience, freezing cold air conditioning, dated decor and apathetic attitude of the wait staff (we asked for the bill, waited for ages, and finally just went and paid at the bar), we had no desire to remain any longer for dessert. So – rule number one is LivingSocial restaurant deals are not all they’re cracked up to be, and rule number two is do your research, and always trust the existing reviews of a place. Sorely disappointed and feel ripped off on this occasion, given it ended up costing over $100 for the two of us once an extra entree, better wine and a couple of side dishes were taken into account to make it a decent meal.I felt mainly disappointed as I’d wanted to take my fiance out somewhere nice for dinner – he’s always the one paying. I felt pretty embarrassed in the end.Oh – and don’t trust what they say in their completely ridiculous radio ads about ‘longing for the Haig back in Canberra’…if you’re in Rome and longing for the food at the Haig, you’ve got a real problem.
Don’t listen to the radio advertisements. One of the most underwhelming restaurants in canberra with over priced and generally average meals.
Awesome food! I tried the chicken breast over risotto, and the crumbled veal over mashed potatoes. Very tasty, I just wanted to lick the plates! A bit expensive, but good-sized portions.
