Succulent well balanced dishes, and desserts so tasty that my dining partner ordered two of them… We first came to the location for our first date, while in different hands now, it is still a great place for a romantic date night. I hate the beetroot and goat cheese salad for entree, followed by pork belly for main. I regret not ordering sides (I like a little more green in my meals), but it did mean I had room for dessert. The profiteroles with lemon curd and ice cream were delicious. My hubby had a seafood entree and main, followed by both the doughnuts (with curd and jam syringes) and the Bonoffi pie.We closed with coffee. The staff here are great. They are attentive but not intrusive. If you are a drinker, grab a beverage at the bar before dinner and soak in the atmosphere.
Absolutely spectacular, had a really enjoyable night here with my boyfriend. Service was great, atmosphere is something else – beautifully thought out and decor is so tasteful. Cocktails and wine were great, with an extensive selection. Oysters for entree were huge! I then had the grilled seafood (without bacon), and was very very impressed. Salmon was delicious, scallops and prawns were cooked perfectly on a bed of a kind of potato-mash-salad. Partner had steak which he loved (I appreciated the complimentary sweet potato fries that came with). Truffle mac and cheese also great, donuts are delicious. On the expensive side but absolutely worth it. Large meal sizes. A slight discrepancy with the bill (which was quickly amended) Would highly recommend – will be back.
Excellent service, but I found the lunch menu a little in the heavy side – that said it is a grill restaurant. The Rosti at breakfast were excellent, some of the best I’ve had.
Recently refreshed, it feels very modern, and has been extremely well thought out. I’ve dined here a couple of times. I tried coleslaw salad along with the fig and cheese dish – absolutely gorgeous!
The Dear Luncher has stayed at the QT Hotel several times so this review is the culmination of several meals at the Capitol Bar and Grill. It goes without saying that the surrounds and general aura of the place is second to none. The Speakeasy theme and political theme of the hotel itself is extremely eye catching. The Dear Luncher has sat down for meals in the Grill itself, and also ordered room service a few times. Recently the Capitol Burger was ordered. While it looked absolutely stunning, it left a lot to be desired on this recent visit. Dry as a bone in the middle, which is strange for a place that prides itself on stunning meat preparation. The bun was also stiff. If The Dear Luncher was judging The Capitol on just that recent meal alone it would be a much lower score. Nicely decorated and friendly staff , however if i order a main for over $40 i expect more than a piece of meat on a plate , which is what i got.
Spent a long weekend in Canberra and this was the best restaurant we visited during our trip. Nice ambience and good service. Unfortunately they were out of one of the spirits for a cocktail we ordered and also out of the doughnut dessert (which is something we specifically went for). All the other meals were great however. A little pricey but worth it. Would definitely return.
