Have been there for a couple of lunches – their burgers are OK but I’d steer clear of the fish and chips. Where Dessert Castle stands up for itself is though, is the flavours of their frozen yoghurt. It’s a nice and quiet place if you feel like a drink or dessert. The crpes are surprising quite nice..of course don’t expect the thin French style crpes, but the crpes taste quite good. After all the razzle dazzle and hype, we were disappointed by the atmosphere, selection and quality of desserts on offer. Almost all were of a rich chocolate mousse variety… Sadly the mousse were dense and overly rich, not light and airy. The chocolates were over-chilled, so the textures in the few we sampled were lost in fudgy chewiness.
Treats for all tastes. Sweet? Check.Savoury? Check.This place may sell itself as a dessert heaven, but it could definitely swing both ways. Burgers, spaghetti, calamari & chips (lovely & crisp) all regarded with satisfaction — & there was even room for dessert! The self-serve frozen yoghurt is popular (particularly the nutella flavour; I do not recommend ‘plain’), with the range of toppings having vastly improved since my first visit (admittedly some of them are still a bit chunky). The gluten free chocolate-almond slice was well worth the deliberation. All cakes (tarts, brownies, cheesecakes, mousses, slices, mini-pies — something for everyone!) are priced very reasonably between $4-7, many also being very generous in size. Can’t wait to try the intriguing selection of individual chocolates also on offer. Added bonus is the quirky presentation of food, & the interesting decor.
Disappointing. After being launched with such fanfare I found this place quite disappointing. Yoghurt was icey, not creamy, the add ons lacked in diversity, with giant pieces of TimTam or Honeycombe that you have pull out and eat with your hands anyway! If you want frozen yoghurt hit up YoghurtLand in Belco. Cakes were running out as we were there late on a Saturday night. My friends cake was simply ‘ok’. I think for a dessert place could do much better, maybe Koko Black or Dolce e Salato is a better bet. Won’t be going back.
Pretty tasty. I had a really good burger. Then I shared a hazlenut mousse dome and a mango raspberry mousse. Both were really good. Often mousses in cafes and restaurants seem a little gelatin-heavy, but these were both really good. Good flavours too.
Burgers are delicious! We got the Aussie and DC burgers – generous amounts of filling and we were told they made their own patties and sauces. Beer battered chips were fresh and crispy. We followed it up with the mango/berry mousse (light and fluffy) and the choc hazelnut dome (rich and chocolatety). Extra milk was provided for my tea with a smile and an offer to top up the teapot.Decor is funky with soft, changing lights and even though it’s tiled floors, a lot of thought seems to have gone in to the acoustics so the noise levels are hushed and friendly rather than too loud to hear your dining companion.Great food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, very reasonable prices – we will definitely be back soon!
