Not sure if the restaurant is under new management or whether there has been a change in chef but we both spent the rest of the night on the toilet. My boyfriend and I ate here to celebrate 1 year anniversary (we came to this restaurant and sat at the same table last year this day). The food tasted OK, both pastas (tortellini and gnocchi) were under seasoned and we had to salt using the shaker on the table. The antipasto board was average with the obvious let down they had no prosciutto or nicer cured meats and actually served HAM! Cringe! On the upside, the gelato was very flavourful and smooth (strong coffee taste and usual zing you expect from lemon). However, when we asked what were their gelato flavours were they listed vanilla as a flavour. I picked this and it came out as vanilla ICE-CREAM (as in store bought quality). When I informed the waitress this was not gelato she said the previous server probably made a mistake as coffee, choc and lemon were the gelato flavours and vanilla was only ice cream. Just BEWARE VANILLA IS NOT GELATO if you intend to choose it, the waitress was nice and professional enough to let me have lemon gelato instead and replaced my dessert. Unfortunately after the dinner both my boyfriend and I have had upset stomachs. We generally have pretty strong stomach but I do think there is some type of contamination given the other reviews below also indicating food poisoning! It is a shame because they serve reasonably priced Italian food for Canberra standards but I just can’t bear to go back and eat again for our next anniversary. If you’re planning on going here, save your money and health and choose another Italian place. Chez Frederic in Braddon is similarly priced, delicious, hygienic and they make their own pasta (unlike Mama’s which only make the gnocchi everything else is packet dried pasta). It is a shame because my boyfriend and his family always come to Mama’s for Italian but we’ve experienced a sudden and scary change. Last for us.

We got food poisoning and they told us we were lying. Oh, and they don’t know the difference between Cab Sav and Sav Blanc. The food tasted fine, I guess.

Food poisoning! 6 out of 8 people on our table were effected. When we called to let them know they completely refused to take responsibility and told us we had gastro… because of course they know more than my doctor. If you make a mistake at least own up to it and apologise. Absolutely disgusted! This is completely unprofessional! I will never eat here again and I will make sure no one I know ever does too.

Stumbled across this place whilst in Canberra. Nonna’s in the kitchen cook some traditional Italian meals. I had Veal Scollapine, my wife and kids pasta. The meals were excellent! Prices are reasonable and service is great. Will definitely be coming back!

The same Mama’s Trattoria which once occupied its cozy digs in Garema Pl, Mama’s Trattoria now in West Row continues to serve up beautifully honest tasty traditional Italian fare which is reasonably priced and quick to arrive once ordered. The service leaves a little to be desired at times, but in fairness the wait staff often seem young and inexperienced, but this doesn’t detract from the quality of the food which is why we keep coming back. After a pasta, try the gelato, it’s wonderful…

Mama’s trattoria has great service. There were no tables available but they were able to quickly get us seated. The wait staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They were flexible with the menu and able to substitute my chicken for mushroom. It’s a decent sized serving with just the right amount of sauce and tasted delicious!

Shown to a dirty table then ignored for 15 minutes. The staff – especially the young man who ‘greeted’ me – all appeared to be over-worked and generally clueless.
