Poor service. Staff liked to stand around chatting to each other than serve patrons. Waited an eternity for drink service. Food was ok but had to wait long enough for it to be bred and slaughtered. And meantime, still no drink service. Manager was rude and unwelcoming. Don’t think she wanted to be there and felt that she was doing a favor taking our order.
If foreign visitors come to this place thinking it will be a good Aussie experience, then Australia’s reputation will be in tatters. The food was ok but the service was terrible (with one exception). Took some visitors from the UK here and wow what a disappointment. Took ages to get served, and after another lengthy wait, the rare steak was cold. Not hot, nor even warm. It was, at best, room temperature. When we finally got the attention of a waitress (who was not even serving our area), she took it back. When the meal returned it was the same piece of steak, they had just plucked it off the plate, reheated it (thus overcooking it) and popping it back on the same (now cold) chips. The other meals were ok but nothing to write home about. The one waitress who helped us appeared genuinely sorry about the problems despite it not even being her fault. Apart from her, the floor manager and most all other staff were more occupied by a group table who they all appeared to know intimately – one of the waitresses was openly caressing and/or flirting with one of the gents present. Despite our sole heroic waitress telling the floor manager about what had happened to us, she didn’t bother coming to apologise to us. The waitress herself had to come and offer us free dessert and apologies. We declined as by this point we were less than inspired to stay. Not helping was that our table was still full of used dishes and glasses which weren’t removed until one of us asked for the table to be cleared – the wait staff were too busy singing happy birthday to the group of gents and having a right jolly old time of it at the expense of actually doing their job. Canberra really needs to sharpen its customer service base if it’s going to try and impress international visitors – especially with the new direct flights from Singapore and Wellington. I would highly recommend NOT going to Outback Jacks in Canberra City. I know we won’t be going back.
Food was actually not to bad and came in a reasonable time. Also saw brochure saying under new management, I am not sure when they took over but the have alot of work to do. Although the wait staff were friendly and nice the service was terrible. You get better table service at McDonalds.
Brochure says under new management! Picked one up while waiting for seats and noticed voucher for discount at base. Refused use as told must be used on second visit. Fair enough but state conditions!!Was overcharged by manager (two items) as kids meals meant to come with free ice cream. Service was very slow and staff had to be asked twice to bring out sons icecream. This resulted in two being brought out, one in error which we correctly returned. Manager rolled her eyes, shook her head and huffed when queried about charges for ice-creams on bill.Definitely not the type of customer service you would like when taking the family out for a meal and when there is clearly staff error on docket. Very disappointed.
New owner but ? Same cook. Ordered medium steak got a well done. What a waste. Quite sure that garlic sauce should have the taste of garlic. Well, at least the mash potato are not made from ‘powder’.Change the fused light globe please. Don’t have to take off winter jacket, need to keep warm inside whilst having dinner.
I had heard mixed reviews about this franchise, but thought I would try it through a promotion on Living Social. We were greeted and seated quite quickly, but that is where the positives end. The food was not anything like I would have expected. Things were overcooked and oily, with a great lack of preparation or enthusiasm. The food came out quite quickly, but surprisingly wasn’t hot. Overall I wouldn’t have been happy to have paid full price for the meal that I received.
Beyond Disappointed is an understatement!I have never felt so humiliated after a restaurant experiencelike this.Upon arriving at the restaurant we were sat next to thekitchen where the very noisy exhaust fan drowned out any chance of aconversation. We asked to move tables (as there was only one other patron inthe restaurant at the time so tables were a dime a dozen). We were moved to theopposite side of the restaurant and could see a staff member laying across abench seat at the rear. The staff member remained laying around with his feeton the seat until the restaurant begun to get busy with other patrons.Upon finishing our meals I asked for a takeaway as I couldnot eat my entire meal. I was given a plastic take away container and proceededto put the remains of my meal into the container. When transferring the finalpart of the meal I noticed a black curly hair in the meal. My husband calledover the waiter (who happened to be the one lying around earlier) and asked ifthis was normal while pointing to the hair. The waiters response was no itsnot normal, what kind of places do you normally eat at? he grabbed the hairheld it in the air while scanning the other staff in the restaurant and walkedaway.I was expecting he would return and at least apologise buthe never returned to our table. We got up from the table and approached the register to finalisethe bill. We were asked how the meal was and said it was good except for thehair in out meal. The staff member then called for the same waiter that hadremoved the hair from my plate and his first response was Is there a problem? We explained that we were very disappointed to find a hair in our meal. Thewaiter then stated that he is the bar manager and that we would need to PROVEto him that the hair was there for the whole meal. I explained that the hairwas discovered when transferring the food to a takeaway container. The Bar manager then pointed to my husband andsaid it looks like his hair My husband grabbed the hair on his head and pointedout that the hair that was found was not in any comparison the same as the onefound. The bar manager muttered fair enough. The bar manager continued to argue with usand tell us that people pull this rubbish all the time (note I put more appropriatelanguage in this response). The bar manager then asked well what do you want?We explained that we were more than happy to pay for all of the meals exceptthe one that contained the hair. He was very disgruntled and was slamming doorsand writing furiously on a piece of paper, all the while saying I have to rightthis down to explain to my manager and Ill make him watch the CCTV of youeating your meal to prove the hair wasnt there. He removed the charge for my meal from the bill and we paidthe remaining amount. (Mind you my meal was the cheapest of the lot.) I offeredmany time to leave my contact details so the manager can speak to me but I wasrefused on every occasion. Is this really customer service? How do you honestly expectanyone to want to return to this restaurant with service like that! We willnever be returning and I have made a point to share this experience witheveryone I know.
