Food. Visited Thirst Wine Bar and Eatery several days ago. Service friendly and promt. Unfortunately food very basic, low quality, expensive for what I got. Sames as with the wine, expensive, $30 for a $10 bottle you could purchase in a bottle shop. The place had little atmosphere for the prices it charges.

Wont be going back. I am staying in Canberra for a week and decided to start my culinary experience with a restaurant local to where I am staying. It was a pleasant enough environment, warm, friendly, service was good. It was the food that was disappointing. The Pad Thai was far far too sweet and also served rather on the cold side. The seafood curry was very gluggy and also if it is at all possible gritty. The Jasmine Rice was lovely though. It was busy (Saturday night) so they must serve something that is good. I wont be going back though.04 Apr, 2015I didn’t eat my meal. I am staying in Canberra for a week and decided to start my culinary experience with a restaurant local to where I am staying. Horrendous. First of all I would like to ask the guys who’ve submitted positive remarks about this place – seriously, how drunk were you when you tried it?Visited this place today, at 8:45 and the only people inside the restaurant were the attendant, the chef and some other dude, having their dinner. Now that should have been a good enough cue for me, but i still went ahead to order a takeaway – a chicken pad thai and a massaman beef curry with steamed rice. Took a walk around the Melbourne building (barely 10 mins) and the food was ready by the time i came back. The biggest miracle, the three people i wrote about earlier were still on the same dining table. The pad thai had sauce dripping out of it. The curry had potatoes with the skin on. The rice was undercooked. Seriously, how neglectful can the chef be, that he couldn’t even cook the rice! And the worst of all, even the takeaway containers were not sealed properly.Honestly, the only thing thats stopping me from lodging a complaint about that place is, I don’t want to store that food till tomorrow morning.

Indifferent. Whenever I have been past Thirst, it has always been packed to the gills — to the point where it was impossible to get a seat. On the night I & a friend visited, it was dead quiet (although that may have been to do with the freezing weather). The service was consequently very fast, & it was lovely that the chef came out to have a chat. However, despite the menu being more imaginative than many Thai restaurants, the food itself was ‘nothing special’. On the upside, would definitely try a second time to see if a different section of food/drinks generates greater enthusiasm.

Really enjoyed the fish salad. The pork belly ordered to come out at same time arrived a good 15 mins later and was burnt. Was told that it how it comes so was asked to order another dish. Table next to us also received burnt pork belly so I guess they do actually serve it over cooked. The soft shell crab ordered instead was very nice. The waitress didn’t smile and wasn’t very apologetic. Enjoyed the food, reasonable price and if the service improved and the attitude of chef would get top marks.

Delicious fusion flavour. I eat here regularly and recently ate here with a group of friends. The crispy fish salad is an amazing dish, not overly spicy but just enough to make it really enjoyable. The trout dumplings in green curry is a popular choice in our group and always well received (you won’t find this dish in a traditional thai restaurant). The massaman beef curry is slow cooked to the point where the beef falls apart. Service is friendly and prompt, wine list is good and there are a couple of good beers on tap. If you are a Canberra local you would already know about this place, if you are visiting make it a part of your trip- you won’t regret it.

Great food, wine and service. Thirst never fails to deliver great Thai food. I’ve been a number of times and enjoy the curries and salads. They do some different dishes that I think is good instead of the same old dishes you get at most of the Thai restaurants around town. the food also seems fairly authentic. I’ve only been on a couple of holidays to Thailand but they seem to do things like laap really well. The Green curry with trout dumplings is another favourite. You can also get a nice glass of wine here, that is missing in most thai places. My best thai in Canberra
