Absolutely love this place! Best food I’ve had in albury/Wodonga so far. They are able to veganise a lot of the vegetarian options. We got green curry, pad thai, coconut rice and deep fried veg. So delicious. Also really good drink prices. I would like to see them switch from using plastic straws to using metal, bamboo or paper straws. But yeah I’ll definitely be back!!Oh there was one thing I noticed on the vegetarian menu that shouldn’t be on there, oyster sauce. Unless they use vegetarian mushroom oyster sauce. Regular oyster sauce is not vegetarian. Hope they fix that soon.
Don’t judge this book its cover. This casual Thai restaurant, located next to the Atura Hotel, at the Monument end of Dean Street, wasn’t easy to get a feel for before booking. They don’t have a website, and their Facebook page has no photos or menu, but on arrival it looks promising seeing its spacious interior through its large windows. Walking past the grey facade, and up the red brick paved stairs, the courtyard screams of unfulfilled potential, and the begrimed outdoor setting gives an uninviting start to the evening. The inside is clean, but feels a bit prosaic and dated with its dark seaweed green vinyl chairs and tall decorative vases tied to poles, presumably to prevent tipping in the case of exuberant children and preoccupied minders. Once promptly seated, the proper linen is refreshing. The Lavender and mauve tablecloths with crisp white bishops hat folded napkins atop each setting, give the feel of South East Asia. The service and staff are top-notch. While there did seem to be some difficulty with the ordering system for our group of 10, the staff were polite and helpful. Most meals came promptly. One meal that wasn’t delivered was followed up quickly, and the table kept updated on the progress without prompting. While it was surprising to not have any complementary Roti bread on the table, the menu on the most part was delicious. The Pak Khing (Sitr Fried Ginger) was disappointing in taste and texture – with the beef dry and Ginger undetectable, and the Yum Neua (Thai Beef Salad) was super hot. All other dishes were highly enjoyable. The Por Pia (Spring rolls) were crisp and golden with a well balanced centre. The Chicken Pad Peanut was delicious – Spicy without being too hot. I’m not a crustacean fan, but am told the Deep Fried King Prawns were cooked to perfection, and the coconut rice was delicious and plentiful. The restaurant is easy to get to with on-street & lot parking (across the road). The bar was well stocked, although seemed expensive (beer was the same price as spirits), and the food affordable (E$8, M$20).If you’re trying to make a great first impression, such as a business dinner or first date, this may not be top of your list. If however, you’re after somewhere simple with good tasty food and great service then Thai Puka is definitely worth a visit.
Food was basic but had great flavor. Biggest negative is no Roti bread – biggest mistake – why would a Thai restaurant not have Roti bread.Decor is dated and front counter cluttered in mess – the decision for the mess at front counter seems to be for convenience of staff rather than look and feel for customers. Wouldn’t go back.
Basic and expensive. No flavour. Pud Thai (V) had broccoli that looked like it was on the boil all day. Definitely not a place I’ll go back to.
