Lovely fit out in an warehouse conversion type building. Staff were lovely and attentive, however coffee and food were a let down. Hot dishes came out barely warm verging on cold (pointing to a lot of pre prepared food mildly reheated) and the coffee was also served luke warm (full cream).
5/5! Excellent food, spacious cafe with beautiful aesthetics and, importantly, friendly service. Very keen to go back to try more menu options. (Both the eggs and porridge were delicious.)A great find in Alexandria!
Gypsy Espresso has been operating for a number of years now, with the flagship café occupying a small space in an alley in Potts Point. Whilst it might only be a small space, they do good food and quality coffee. They’ve since expanded to a huge warehouse space in Alexandria on Mitchell Road, occupying what once was an Antique centre. We love the café here, light and bright and plenty of room to meet the busy customers.
The prices are fairly high but Gypsy backs it up a nice interior (well protected from the noise of the intersection), fast and friendly service and good food – the pink eggs had pretty basic summary flavours but eggs done well and quite a bit of food on the plate. The coffee had quite a strong syrupy flavour – I like coffee with a bit of that flavour but this went well beyond any I’ve had before, however it was good due to also being very smooth and creamy. There’s no disclosure of the credit card surcharge until the payment goes through – is this a new standard? – and there’s a surcharge for all weekend as well as for public holidays but it’s a worthwhile place if you want a fancy cafe.
A sleek and minimalist cafe space, the interestingly named cafe is a play on words with beans being supplied by Gypsy Espresso. It’s probably as upmarket as a cafe can get with a gorgeous coffee bar at which to enjoy everything from an espresso to cold brew, iced coffee, affogato or even cascara (a chilled beverage made using the skins of the coffee bean). As well as coffee, there’s a handful of teas including the intriguing “Duck Shit”. Service is impeccable and the menu is Asian fusion.
