Whenever a reuben sandwich is available, i cant help but think of ruben barrichello, the 2nd f1 driver on ferrari’s team who plays (u guessed it) 2nd fiddle to the almighty schumacher in the mid 90’s. His talents had always been suppressed to make way for schummy, in individual races and in overall team strats for the championship. But i digress. Reuben 3.75/5, it had all the right ingredients on the menu. Pastrami swiss cheese sauerkr rusky dressing. It had to be sandwiched by rye bread, though other choices are available. This thing is a slow burn, nothing stood out. That’s because it encourages you to dig in and reveals itself shyly. Recommend you upsize the meat to at least ‘hungry’ level (see menu uploaded previously). Also order a side of pickles. No, it is not the same kind of reuben fm reuben hills in surry hills, which is more in yer face and no less tasty. Wonder who is schummy, who is barrichello here.. Pork loin, pity the meat is wee dry, the spices though.. i aint saying anything, you gotta try it. Pastrami, the same meat used in their awesome reuben.. have it ‘de-constructed’, add pickles n your own mustard. Salted caramel cookie, my cookie monster stole this before i had any chance of tasting it.. Interesting choice of venue in industrial side of artarmon instead of the residential or train station side. Make your way there folks nevertheless.
A truly hidden gem. The best coffee in Artarmon/St Leonards area and one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in Sydney, if not Australia. The Reuben is fantastic. Great pastrami, awesome bread, sauce is also delicious. Downsides are borderline deal breakers though. Firstly it’s almost impossible to find a park anywhere close so unless you work within walking distance then be prepared for heartbreak as you spend your entire lunch break circling the block looking for a park only to give up and return to work hungry and empty handed. This could be overcome by UberEATS or deliveroo or another delivery service but last time I checked they don’t offer it and if they did it would add $5 to the price. Given that it’s already a fairly expensive sandwich to begin with it’s starting to become a questionable choice but one that I would treat myself to on occasion because it’s just so damn good.
