What can I say! Amazing eatery. Value for money = incredible, dumplings are made by hand at the front of the eatery so you know they couldn’t be any fresher and the menu is huge meaning there is something to suit everyone’s taste. BYO beer to. Winning! Recommended – Sticky rice cake with shredded pork

I would like to recommend this restaurant. Though its small, the dish tastes pretty good! I ordered the honey BBQ pork noodle. Most of the dishes in the menu are in reasonable price. Its a good place to have dinner alone or with no more than 4 people as there is no big room for gathering. Cheap meals provided during lunch time.

What to say about New Shanghai Night. Well theres about 3 restaurants along the main strip of Ashfield that contain the words New, Shanghai and Night but theres only one with the grandmas in the front window hand-rolling dumplings that youre about to devour until you look like an overcooked dumpling ready to explode! Most people end up at New Shanghai Night because theyre sick of lining up at the hipster fancy dumpling place next door. The Shao Long Bao (money bag looking dumplings we soup inside) were delicious but a little cold (4/5). The Combination Wonton Noodle Soup (4/5) was full of massive chunks of all meat combinations and even bigger wonton dumplings! The plate of Pork and Chives Dumplings (5/5) are amazing! They would get a 6/5 if you ordered them fried but my mate doesnt like her dumplings fried 🙁 The Pan-Fried Pork Buns must be what heaven tastes like, soft fluffy and filled with pork goodness! I was stuffing these down and even took a takeaway container full home half got devoured in the car, the other half were demolished at 1am before we went to bed! The steamed vegetables (3/5) are vegetables like salad you cant make friends with salad!New Shanghai Night has very plain dcor. The place looks run down inside, the tables and chairs are old and theres benches along one wall. What they lack in dcor, the make up in flavour, speed, price and taste! This is my secret, favourite dumpling spot in Sydney. Im always coming back!

Staff asked us to pay upon ordering, havent even received food yet. Then when we were done the lady said okay go and pointed towards the door. Table next to us received great table service while we were discriminated. Definitely not worth coming back.

My favourite place for dumplings!!Situated next door to the over populated New Shanghai Night, this place offers tasty dumplings which are freshly made by the lovely ladies often seen at the front window. We always order the pan fried pork buns, 18piece fried or steamed pork and coriander dumplings as well as the Xiao long Bao which are full of rich flavours, can never get enough!

There is a reason why humans are creature of habit, because a change of routine may means uncertainty or risk. In the case of my lunch in New Shanghai Night, the change of routine didn’t quite pay off and the food was rather disappointing. New Shanghai and Taste of Shanghai are my go to places but for some reason I decided to try this place for a change. Unfortunately the three classic Shanghai dishes we ordered are not representing the essence of the cuisine. The spicy pork noodles are bland, the only flavour comes from the chilli oil. The noodles completely lacks texture. I have never had noodles quite like it, its like overcooked pasta and simply disintegrated in the mouth. The pan fried dumplings don’t strike me as house made but possibly frozen. I could hardly find any sauce in the dumplings and when I eventually did it was tasteless again. The skin is so thick which is completely opposite to the Shanghai style. The rice cake in XO Sauce is the least evil of the three only because there was copious amount XO sauce in it which provided much needed flavour for the entire meal. I don’t expect world class service or trendy decor when I dine in Ashfield, but I do expect a restaurant respects the cuisine they offer and delivers authenticity. What I experienced in New Shanghai Night is an attempt of making Shanghai dishes but they missed it by miles. thernbdiary.com

Really good dumpling option in Ashfield, and very good value for money. We always go for the pork and chive dumplings, and the eggplant in garlic sauce is a good veggie option.
