Disappointment. We dined at Le Bistro on Sunday night with great expectation. The restaurant was healthily busy – always a good signFrom the bland and tasteless pate we shared as entree, the disappointment continued. The bouillabaisse was a watery, colorless and tasteless flotsam featuring a loan prawn. The venison was a lie, tasting more like limp ‘minute’ steak and begging for a lifesaving sauce. Thank god for the Pinot, bread, and left-overs we fought over when we got home ! Never again
We were just blown away by this restaurant. Every single dish was perfection. Fresh authentic French cuisine. Nothing pretentious. The real deal. The lamb was succulent and melted in our mouths. The poisson du jour perfect. Don’t miss the crepe suzette or the creme brulee. Very friendly professional staff. This dinner easily sits in my top 5 restaurant dinners of all time. Just go. We spent $180 for two but it was worth every cent.
Absolutely fantastic! Afte…. Absolutely fantastic! After living in France and growing accustomed to well-cooked French cuisine, I can safely say this place has nailed it! Entree of courgette flowers stuffed with goats cheese (best goats cheese I’ve had in oz), and a handmade pesto to accompany. Main was med-rare venison in an AMAZING jus with parsnip pure.Dessert: Creme brle (scrumptious!)Both my parents absolutely adored their meals too (seared scallops/ lamb & handmade pate/ confit du canard).I would highly recommend this place for both it’s food & it’s service, as well as the simple-yet-charming decor. I can’t wait to return.
Brilliant. Have been to this French gem several times and have found it even better in winter of 2013. The entree Nioise salad is unsurpassed – very generous and a meal in itself . Also the Coquille St Jacques was excellent. For mains the Steak in cafe de Paris style was excellent, the venison melted and the fish of the day is always good and interesting. Each day of the week features a rotating very French special such as bouillabaisse – check when you book. Very nice atmosphere and terrific staff. Probably Avalon’s best, along with Clareville Kiosk
Dissappointed. Duck confit dry and tasteless, venison cooked well but sauce lacked depth. Main meal sizes are really small make sure that you aren’t too hungry! Lack of BYO so you must choose from their inflated price wine list. I won’t go back.
Excellent!. We have eaten at Le Boulevard several times since their re-opening under the next generation of owners (daughter and son-in-law of the originals) and have loved every meal, from the bouillabaisse to the beef, to the fish of the day, everything has been top notch served in a personal and friendly environment. A slice of French heaven on the northern beaches!
A little dissapointing, had heard good things, but a French bistro thats onion soup lacks depth and serves a dry though quite tasty duck confit, is not really up to expectations. Nice staff and vibe. Good wine list. Maybe worth another try, maybe not.
