We had an awesome birthday celebration for my wifes birthday 2 weeks ago at Sofies. It was our first time back since we lived in Balmain having enjoyed some great greek meals there in the past. Sofie and the team sure know how to host and make everyone feel welcome. We did the banquet with about 16 people and everyone loved it and had a night to remember – so much food, great value & great quality. Would be rude to single out a dish as they were all great. Sofie is quite a character & as her restaurant there is a personal touch to everything….right down to Sofie offering to take photos and email them to you. Thanks Sofie! Highly recommended for both a small or large gathering.

Super good, I had vegetarian moussaka. The first time, very impressed. Also got some complimentary tasty turkish delights. One of the best kept secrets in Balmain, Worth a visit. Staff super friendly. Can’t fault it. Will return.

If you are looking for authentic Greek food, look no further than Sofie’s Greek restaurant in Balmain! The food was absolutely amazing, the lamb melted in your mouth and the homemade Dolmades were delicious! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the service was fantastic!highly recommend!! 5/5

Dinner started well with nice mixed entrees including a delicious fig salad, polenta crusted spanokopita (however you spell it), calamari, octopus and vine leaves. Octopus was delicious! Loved the combination of flavours and the fresh herbs with the dish. Calamari was Tiny and barely enough for 2 tiny ones each. We shared the dishes so this was a little disappointing. Husband loves the vine leaves served warm with both Tzatziki and tomato based sauce. Mains were a huge let down. My seafood soup wasn’t nice at all. I left it which is very rare for me. Mum ordered the scotch fillet that we asked for medium but where was the scotch fillet? We actually asked if we had the right dish. What was served was a roll of pastry with filling and it wasn’t until we cut it up did we find a tiny bit of meat on the bottom, sliced thinner than minute steak. This was cooked beyond its life. Nothing juicy or meaty to be found. The dish wasn’t bad but don’t call it scotch fillet. Call it a Greek sausage roll. Change it’s description. Husbands lamb was the dish of the average main of night. Nice veggies well cooked. Lamb was tasty but needed longer cooking time to make it fall off the bone.Service was ok. We came with child and unfortunaltly not long after entrees they sat a table of drinkers and foul mouthed people behind us. The restaurant had lots of other empty tables. Felt we had to work hard to compensate her not hearing the swearing and loudness. Management seemed to have known the table, were mucking around with them, just would have been nice if they were mindful of the child and sat them elsewhere. Mind you it wasn’t late. We booked for 7pm out by 8.10pm. Any who I appreciated the waitress asking about the soup which I didn’t touch. I told her not to my liking at all. She came back with a menu asking if I wanted something else (after all plates from other people on table cleared too) I kindly declined. Management then took it off the bill which I appreciated even more.I had heard a lot about this place and read even more reviews. Was kinda let down.
