Check the specials board for some better than average pub offerings – if you order off the bar menu that’s on the tables you’ll get pretty orthodox servings. A better beer selection and classier decor than you might expect from a ‘country pub’ too. Solid but nothing to rave about.
I would say that Relish Bar and Grill, better known as the Federal to locals, is better than average pub food. I loved the spring vegetable risotto and when I came back another holiday I found the menu had changed. It was much more dense in meat dishes and one of very few vegetarian options was the vegetable pasta. I’m not a vegetarian but often crave a good vegetarian meal especially as a lot of places put extra effort into them to beat the stereotype of being bland and dull. Anyway, the pasta was enjoyable but nothing sophisticated at all. The meals were quick to come but there is no table service which always bothers me a bit. Relish isn’t my first preference for dinner but overall it’s not too bad and is definitely above average pub food in a nice setting.
We were here on a public holiday evening and the place was packed. To the credit of the staff, the meals came out quickly. The meals however were pretty average and standard pub fare. It was very busy so would make allowances for this before trying again.
Good pub meal. Monday night – $13 (or possibly $13.50?) for a chicken schnitzel with chips + salad + gravy plus a free beer or wine. That is pretty good value! Meals were well portioned and tasty, I would suggest booking a table as the restaurant was almost full!
