Mexican restaurants always grab my attention, because I like no fuss, flavoursome cuisine. The colours, cocktails and fun atmosphere of many eateries are also fabulous. Having said that, I’ve never been overly impressed with the meals I have tasted…until now!I did a bit of research before heading to Bondi Rumba, as I’m staying in the area. Sure, the venue is quaint and their back area could use a renovation, but it’s a cool place offering great grub. My ‘Speedy Gonzales’ and ‘Baja Fish’ tacos were delicious, as were the ‘Yucca Fries’, which I opted to have with chilli salt and lime seasoning, chipotle mayo, and garlic aioli. To top it off, their Coconut Margarita was outstanding. I arrived shortly after they opened and experienced fast, friendly service.

Not Bondi’s finest. Expensive for what tastes like microwave food. The back yard is dirty with an uncomfortable restriction on personal space. The real kicker is the service. Waiters more interested in chatting amongst themselves than serving customers. 40 minutes for nachos with only one other table. Almost tried to give it a second go but again, rudely treated. Reading previous strong reviews, I’m wondering whether the owners have either changed or it was their mates writing them to start with?!Don’t waste your time or money. Head to Mickey’s in Paddington instead.
