The stop over spot for the cast of Priscilla, Queen of the desert had to be a place for us to visit whilst in Broken Hill, so we did. Had a look at the amazing paintings in the entrance and stair well firstly and booked for dinner in the lounge. Arrived for dinner, seated quickly, water arrived and our drink and entree order was taken. A nice red wine came out quickly and garlic bread arrived shortly after. Garlic bread was nice, but could have had more garlic on it. Mains arrived shortly after, vegetable lasagne and pork belly, both very good, some of the veg was a bit over cooked, but very good. This old pub has a fantastic ambience, even the floor shaking when the mine blasting went off at 6.45pm, certainly worth a visit, good basic menu with nice food.
Great food and atmosphere. Food and vine, simple but wholesome. Perfect pub food in the booze palace. We had steak and hamburgers and the soup of the day. All delicious.
Iconic hotel with beautiful paintings and old world charm. Great for a beer in the bar. The restaurant staff are friendly but the meals are average. There is better food in Broken Hill.
We’ve been told that the Palace Hotel is a restaurant which you must go to when you’re in Broken Hill. Not only is it one of the only two places where it’s legal to play two-up all through the year, but it’s also one of Broken Hill’s most iconic building, where Priscilla was filmed.
I was a frequent guest of the former Side Bar Restaurant for many years; that is, until the management decided to close this popular venue and move everything to the so-called Front Bar. From there on, thanks to a bolshie, if inept, General Manager [no longer there] the place went down-hill. All of the locals departed [as have I], never to return. The cuisine is not all that flash. The staff could easily have been trained by United Airlines, so rude and inept are they.
