Berkelo is little Bakery just off the main road near Warringah Mall. It has friendly staff, tasty food and is a hidden gem! There is a very small Breakfast menu available but it’s got some delicious looking cakes and baked good that will make up for it!The food looks great and I love the fact that their Hot chocolate comes in the milk jug as it looked quirky! If you love a baked good or you’re looking for a quick cake or croissant on the go then this place it for you.Parking can be hard, so I recommend parking across at the shops and just stroll on over 🙂

There was only one server, so service was slow. Water is not provided, despite having bottles of it behind the counter. They only have full cream milk available. Coffee was average. We ordered the Ham and Cheese Croissant and Avocado in Brookvale. The avocado dish was underwhelming for a simple looking dish. Fermented vegetables lacked any tang and just reminded me of soggy grated vegetables. Croissant took a while to come out. Even then, it was undercooked.Imagine youre baking and you use the microwave trick to soften the butter. Sometimes a clump is in the middle while the melted butter drips oily around it. Now imagine this but inside layers of pastry. A pastry that has gone cold because the croissant hasnt cooked properly and the waitress was too busy to serve it to you. The filling was dismal. Thin layer of ham and cheese got lost between the oily cold pastry.Seating is milk crates with wooden stools for tables scattered on an uneven slanted driveway.

These guys don’t do a lot but what they do they do it right! Coffee, bread and baked goods is the forte at this wholesome establishment. Ordered a skim cap and a ham and cheese croissant to have there and was told no skim milk….just whole or almond. How refreshingly simple! OK! Purchased divine sourdough dinner rolls to take home too. Perched on a milk crate and waited for my order under the shade of the jacaranda tree. My coffee arrives in a delightfully handmade potted cup and the flavour is truly good. Then the best ham and cheese croissant ever with the pastry crisp and buttery. Can’t wait to get home and attack my rolls!

  • Constructively Critical

Okay, they may be creative and the sourdough tasty, but $5 for a croissant is honestly overpriced. There are other bakeries around that does really good croissants and Berkelo’s cost performance isn’t good. The coffee options seem ridiculous too. I’m not for a fancy coconut or almond milk.

  • Rosie Mansfield

A local hidden gem. Tom ‘The Baker’ has been raising the standards in the restaurant circles for years, but his true talents have really shined in focusing on simply doing bread and coffee RIGHT! The small menu has been thoughtfully refined to perfection and a coffee connoisseur won’t be disappointed; there is a reason why the locals travel a little further now for their morning pick me up. Go!

I would let the photos talk for themselves but can’t help recommend their croissant enough!!! They use all wholesome and local products. I have never been to their main cafe but grabbed this and tried some bread in their store at Denks St collective bazaar! Defined will try to go their cafe to try other baked goods

An artisanal bakery located down the road from Warringah Mall, Berkelo is pre-dominantly a takeaway operation with a few seats and milk crates to sit outside. We called in late afternoon for a coffee but ended up just sampling a chocolate croissant as they were closing and no longer offering coffee service. Their philosophy is about creating better food and offering better choices for their customers’ health so you won’t find any refined sugars in their pastries as evidenced by the chocolate croissant I tried which was not overly sweet. Service is casual and friendly, and they will happily explain the menu.
